Reminder: 10 Days Til the Start of the Extra Inning Softball 2021 High School All-American Team + National High School Player & Coach of the Year!

LSU-bound pitcher Sydney Berzon of Baylor School (Chattanooga, Tennessee) compiled a 17-0 record with a 0.47 ERA and in 77 innings pitched struck out 179 batters. She was also ranked #11 in the 2022 Extra Elite 100 rankings.

The Independence Day Weekend is here and that means in 10 days we launch the Extra Inning Softball 2021 High School All-American Team!

Our list is the deepest and most researched you will find as we feel it necessary to honor all those who deserve to be recognized as an Extra Inning Softball High School All-American as well as National Player & Coach of the Year.

We’ll begin recognizing the accomplishments of players who excelled at the high school level with the following schedule:

EXTRA INNING SOFTBALL ALL-AMERICAN TIMELINE
  • Monday, July 12 – Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-Americans (Pitchers)
  • Tuesday, July 13 – Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-Americans (Catchers)
  • Wednesday, July 14 – Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-Americans (Infielders)
  • Thursday, July 15 – Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-Americans (Outfielders)
  • Friday, July 16 – Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-Americans (Multi-Purpose)
  • Monday, July 19 – Extra Inning Softball 2nd Team All-Americans
  • Tuesday, July 20 – Extra Inning Softball High School Player of the Year
  • Wednesday, July 21- Extra Inning Softball High School Coach of the Year

Those chosen will be selected based on the following factors:

  • accomplishments, stats and honors
  • importance in the success of the team
  • on-field abilities, skills & talent
  • off-the-field resume, i.e. academic success, community involvement, etc.

To give you an idea how in-depth our All-American teams can be, here’s the list of the 2019 High School All-American Catchers (there were no All-Americans in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic):

1st TEAM HIGH SCHOOL ALL-AMERICANS—CATCHERS

Sr. Hannah Borden, Hewitt-Trussville (Trussville) AL          
Hannah is the top Class 7A player in the state and finished her career with 43 home runs including 12 as a senior following 18 in 2018. She hit .461 with 44 RBI this year in 41 games and only made one error this year for a .996 fielding percentage. Hannah is headed to Southern Mississippi.

Jr. Hannah Cady, Clarkston MI    
Hanna is considered by some as the top prospect in the state and after being named 2nd Team Extra Inning Softball All-American as a sophomore returns this year to be 1st Team All-State again this year although she had a shoulder injury at the beginning of the season which limited her to DP duties. Hannah is committed to Northwestern.

Julia Cottrill

Sr. Julia Cottrill, Stillwater OK     
Julia is currently playing with the USA Softball U-19 this summer and is regarded as one of the top catcher in the 2019 class. The Florida signee repeats as a 1st Team Extra Inning Softball All-American after hitting .547 with 10 home runs and 10 doubles with just one strikeout as a senior in her season played last fall.

Sr. Chloe Culp, North Florida Christian (Tallahassee) FL      
Chloe is a four-time 3A All-State Player and this year was the Class 3A Offensive Player of the Year after she hit .635 with 11 home runs, five doubles, five triples and 42 RBI. She had 42 career home runs and also had 23 steals and 25 walks as a senior. Chloe has signed with Florida State.

Lyndi Rae Davis

So. Lyndi Rae Davis, Calhoun GA             
Lyndi Rae repeats as an Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-American after she hit .517 with a .646 on-base percentage and 31 walks as teams avoid pitching to her. She had a 1.534 OPS and has such a strong arm that teams rarely try to steal on her. Lyndi Rae has committed to the homestate Bulldogs of Georgia.

Sr. Gabi Deters, Bowling Green MO                    
Gabi is a standout catcher who has been playing this summer on the USA Softball Jr. National Team. She was a four-time 1st Team Conference pick in Missouri and a three-time 1st Team All-State honoree. The Kentucky signee was the 2018 Gatorade State Player of the Year and as a senior she hit .430 with 11 home runs, 28 RBI and scored 50 runs. Gabi also drew 31 walks.

Jr. Abby Doerr, Marist (Eugene) OR
Abby put up huge numbers as a senior, hitting .694 with 19 home runs and had 74 RBIs in just 24 games to lead the lead. Her 22 walks and power numbers gave her an outstanding OPS of 2.385. Abby was the Oregon 4A Player of the Year and recently committed to Alabama after having originally verballed to the homestate Oregon Ducks.

Alyssa Garcia

Sr. Alyssa Garcia, Mater Dei Catholic (Chula Vista) CA           
Alyssa was practically a Co-Player of the Year in San Diego with high school and future UCLA Bruin teammate Lexi Sosa. The catcher earned All-State honors after hitting .519 with 56 hits including five home runs, 32 RBIs and 56 hits in 35 games to help lead her Crusaders team to the San Diego Open Division Championship. She also only had one error all season for a .996 fielding percentage.

Sr. Kinzie Hansen, Norco CA        
Kinzie was selected as the California Ms. Softball and is a three-time All-American. Facing strong competition, the Oklahoma signee hit .467 with five home runs and 36 RBI and her 148 career RBIs ties her with fellow senior Paige Smith. A repeat 1st Team All-American and four-time CalHiSports.com All-State pick, Kenzie helped the Cougars win the CIF-Southern Section title for the second time in three years this spring.

Sr. Emma Kauf, Lincoln Southwest NE   
Emma is considered by some as one of the best hitters in Nebraska high school history. She was the 2019 Gatorade Nebraska State Player of the Year after batting .570 this year with 22 home runs (a Class A record), 15 doubles, 81 runs scored (an all class record), 65 RBIs and 12 steals. The Georgia Tech signee was a Class A all-state honoree and led Southwest to a state title.

Fr. Caitlyn Newburn, Napa CA     
Caitlyn was a North Coast Section 1st Team All-Section and San Francisco Chronicle All-Metro 1st Team honoree after hitting .649 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs in 56 at-bats. Her 25 walks versus only two strikeouts all-season helped give her a strong 2.181 OPS. The UCLA commit also hit .824 with runners in scoring position. To read more on her, click HERE.

Sr. Neely Peterson, Cypress Creek FL    
Neely was one of the top defensive catchers in the nation this year, not allowing an error in 24 games and throwing out the three baserunners who tried to steal on her. She hit .528 with seven home runs and had 50 RBIs. The Colorado State signee also is a standout volleyball player. She was a 2nd Team All-American as a junior.

Sam Roe

Fr. Sam Roe, Niceville FL                 
Considered one of the most promising young catchers in the game, Sam was ranked as the #1 player in the 2022 Extra Elite 100 recruiting rankings. She showed her promise on the field, playing a lot at shortstop also to help her team, by earning Florida Class 7A 1st Team All-State honors per Miracle Sports. The Florida commit and Extra Inning Softball 2018 2nd Team All-American last year hit .429 with five home runs, 25 RBIs and had 20 walks as a freshman. Here’s more on Sam…

Jr. Meadow Sacadura, Bishop O’Connell (Arlington) VA
Meadow has helped her team win the state title the last three years and is also a three-time All-State honoree. She hit .543 with 31 RBIs this year and didn’t strike out all season. The Maryland commit was also strong behind the plate throwing out 65 percent of runners and committing no errors.

Sr. Julia Scardina, Marin Catholic (Kentfield) CA
Julia put up big numbers for the North Coast Section Div. III champs as she batted .687 with 13 home runs and 54 RBI to help lead the team to a 25-1 record. She was the Marin Independent-Journal Player of the Year and is headed to the University of Utah.

Sr. Macy Simmons, Hamilton (Chandler) AZ    
It was another strong season for one of the nation’s top catchers as the member of the current USA Softball U-19 Wokmen’s National Team hit .441 with an on-base percentage of .551. The Arizona State signee hit 10 runs and on defense didn’t give up a steal all year.
