The state of Missouri concluded its fall high school softball season on Oct. 27 with champions being crowned in Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, Class 4 and Class 5.
Missouri sponsors softball in five classifications in the fall and the state championships were played at the Killian Softball Complex in Springfield, Mo.
Class 1 – La Plata vs. Jamestown
La Plata and Jamestown clashed on the diamond to determine the Missouri state champion in Class 1.
The Bulldogs used a complete game shutout from senior Whitney Snow to claim a 9-0 victory over the Eagles.
Snow allowed only three hits and struck out nine as La Plata claimed its first state championship since 1999.
Five different La Plata batters drove in a run including Kohyn Wood and Layne Mack.
Class 2 – Carrollton vs. Chaffee
The matchup to decide the state championship in Class 2 was contested between Carrollton and Chaffee.
The Trojans captured the first state title in school history by holding off the Lady Devils for a 4-3 victory.
Jenna Edwards went the distance in the circle for Carrollton as she allowed seven hits and struck out seven batters.
Emmy Lock had two hits, including a home run, and drove in a run to lead the Carrollton offense. Taylor Person went 1-for-2 with a home run and two runs scored, while Raegan Schlueter had two hits.
Addison Uhrhan went 2-for-3 and drove in a run for Chaffee and Bailey Robertson was 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Carlyanne Cossou went the distance in the circle and allowed six hits and struck out four.
Class 3 – Fatima vs. St. Francis Borgia
The Class 3 state title matchup featured Fatima and St. Francis Borgia.
The Comets used a seven-run third inning to claim a 12-2 victory over the Lady Knights to capture their second consecutive state title.
Fatima pounded out 13 hits in the championship game led by Kinzey Woody who was 3-for-4 with three runs drive in and two runs scored.
Hannah Heisler and Mia Kliethermes each had two hits for the Comets.
Clara Nowak had two hits to lead St. Francis Borgia, while Paige Vogelgesang, Gwen Newton, Averi Glosemeyer and Amanda Dorpinghaus each had one hit.
