The state of Oklahoma concluded its fall high school softball season on Oct. 14 with champions being crowned in 6A, 5A and 4A classifications. Champions in B, A, 2A-3A were crowned on Oct. 7.
Oklahoma sponsors softball in seven classifications in total ranging from B-6A. Championships were played at Cowgirl Stadium on the campus of Oklahoma State and Marita Hynes Field at Oklahoma.
Class B – Tupelo vs. Turner
In a matchup featuring the top two teams in the state, Tupelo held on for a 3-2 victory over Turner. The state title was the first for the Lady Tigers in fastpitch softball.
Tupelo, which entered the championship game as the No. 2 seed, ended the year with a 30-4 overall record. Top-seeded Turner finished the year with a 35-6 record.
Tupelo held a 3-0 lead entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but Turner would make things interesting. The Lady Falcons plated two runs to cut the lead to 3-2 and had the tying run in scoring position, but Tupelo starting pitcher Ava Sliger notched a strikeout to end the game.
Class A – Caddo vs. Red Oak
Caddo, the top-ranked team in Class A, faced Red Oak to determine the state champion. The Bruins rode the bat of Kadey Lee McKay and the arm of Timber Hensley to a 1-0 win for Caddo’s third consecutive state championship.
McKay, who has committed to the University of Oklahoma, homered in the first inning which proved to be more than enough for Hensley who limited Red Oak to two hits while striking out eight in a complete game performance.
Caddo has won five consecutive Oklahoma Class A titles if you factor in the two slow pitch state titles they won in 2023 and 2022.
Class 2A – Dale vs. Pocola
Dale and Pocola squared off for the Class 2A title, which was a rematch from the 2022 state tournament which saw Pocola defeat Dale in the semifinals.
Dale was able to turn the tables this season as the Pirates downed Pocola 2-0 to capture their sixth state title overall.
Dale took advantage of Pocola error early in the game to score two runs, which proved to be all the runs the Pirates would need on the day.
Kinsley Hill allowed just two hits and struck out six batters to earn the victory, and the state title, for Dale.
Dale captured its sixth state title overall and fifth in the last 11 years.
Class 3A – Perry vs. Lone Grove
Perry and Lone Grove clashed on the diamond to determine the Oklahoma state champion in Class 3A.
Perry held off a late rally from Lone Grove to claim a 3-2 victory to earn the school its first-ever 3A state title.
The Maroons scored two runs in the first and added another run in the second inning to take an early 3-0 lead.
Lone Grove battled back and had the winning run on base in the seventh inning before Perry was able to record the final out.
Class 4A – Newcastle vs. Purcell
The matchup to decide the state championship in 4A was contested between third-seeded Newcastle and fifth-seeded Purcell.
Newcastle emerged with a 4-0 victory to secure the third state title in school history.
The Racers scored all four of their runs in the first two innings behind RBIs from Lilyana Portillo, Madelyn Torrenueva, Brooklyn Lyles and Lexie Lovelace.
The Racers finished the season with a 34-4 overall record, which marked their best record in 10 years.
