So how does a Southern California girl end up in the Deep South?
For Leilani “Lei” Pulemau, ranked #64 in the 2021 Extra Elite 100 and a Top 50-rated infielder, it didn’t take her long before she fell in love with Mississippi State saying: “Touring the campus and seeing the family bond within the program was just amazing.”
A senior at Carson (California) High and a member of Ken Briggs So Cal Athletics 18U team, she is a skilled third baseman and prodigious power-hitter who “can change the game with one swing,” according to her coach.
In her COVID-shortened junior season, Leilani hit four home runs with 12 RBIs before the plug was pulled eight games in.
Here’s more from the genial player who will be a power force to be reckoned with in the SEC…

Where did you sign your Letter of Intent?
I signed my letter intent in my dining room and celebrated with my family members at home
Was it a big occasion or more low-key?
Due to COVID, we decided to keep it with our immediate family.
When did you actually commit to MSU?
I committed roughly 10 months ago on January 18, 2020.
What highlight stands out to you about the recruiting process?
I would say a highlight was being recognized by some top D1 schools as early as the 7th grade. I enjoyed being able to showcase my talent and compete with some really great athletes at such a young age .
Was there an “aha” moment when you knew Mississippi State was the right school for you?
Visiting the campus, I didn’t know what to expect when I showed up but when I got there it was love at first sight! Touring the campus and seeing the family bond within the program was just amazing. The program alone is very family-oriented and that’s something I cherish and can’t wait to be a part of.
