12U CLUB SCOUTING REPORT
Extra Inning Softball will begin releasing the Extra Elite Eighty 12U Club Rankings starting on Monday, April 27, 2020, so we’ll start taking a look at some of the top teams in the nation.
Let’s take a look at Coach Casey Shaulis‘ team …

2019 Summer Record: 46-36-3
Top Finishes: 2019 DeMarini Fall Brawl champs, 2019 Diamond Chix Pumpkin Smash runner-up, 2020 RAW Round-Up runner-up and 2020 Monsters Invitational runner-up
Returners:
- Breanna “Bre” Ruggiero (2026, 3B/OF/UT, a fierce competitor who has no fear guarding the hot corner. Her glove, arm strength and mental toughness make her a defender to be reckoned with whether at 3B or in the outfield)
- Alexis “Lexi” Witts (2025, MIF/OF, has a great glove and isn’t afraid to get dirty. You’ll see her making diving plays on weekends and joking around with her team mates in the dugout and in between games. When not on the field she works extremely hard throughout the week to get better)
- Mallory “Mal” Pickering (2025, P/OF/2B, a force on the mound. Her grit, toughness and big smile make her a great asset on the field and in the dugout. A vocal leader in the dugout and shows her love for the game and for her teammates)
- Caleigh “Cal” Shaulis (2025, C/OF, 2019 USA Softball All-American, an athletic catcher with size and speed. She has made huge strides defensively and hits for power. Her work ethic off the field sets the tone for her performance on the field)
- Alaina “Lou” Rollyson (2025, 2B/OF, has athleticism to burn. Her speed, competitive nature and personality make her a welcoming teammate and excellent softball player. She can be heard loud and clear in the dugout cheering during those close games)
Newcomers:
- Ava Gundling (2026, P/3B/UT, selected to 2019 Nationals All-Star Team, brings a strong work ethic and plenty of skill to the team. She will provide solid pitching on the mound locating her pitches. Her glove and effort will be an asset wherever she plays on the field and her attitude will be a positive addition to the dugout. She has a strong bat and coachable demeanor)
- Ayva “Bulldog” Cullen (2025, SS/2B/3B, brings competitive fire and a strong work ethic to the team. She has a non-stop motor and high softball IQ. Her work ethic and drive to reach her goals is impressive)
- McKayla McGee (2025, P/1B, 2018 USSSA All-American, 2019 USA Softball All-American, she is a driven, hard-working athlete who strives to get better every day. Her hard work is evident by her performance on the mound and in the batter’s box)
- Payton Newman (2026, 1B/3B/OF/P, brings a lot of speed, power, size and athletic ability to the softball field. Her strong work ethic and drive to get better is outstanding)
- Jaycie Goad (2025, SS/UT, 2018 USSSA Direct Select All-American for the Great Lakes Region, no stranger to hard work and it shows on the field. She brings a great glove, strong bat, athleticism and a big smile to the dugout)
What will it take for your team to be successful this year?
We are a close-knit team that gelled quickly with the newcomers. We need to continue to work hard in our off days and be more consistent in the batter’s box.

Who is your No. 1 pitcher and can you describe her skills? Who are the other pitchers on your staff and can you describe their skills?
McKayla McGee: #1 McKayla is a driven athlete that is focused on one thing … getting better every day. She is a hard-throwing pitcher with her fastball topping out right at 60 mph. She also had a great change-up, screwball and drop curve that she can throw in any count.
Mallory Pickering: #2 Mal is a hard-throwing pitcher topping out in the mid-50s. She also throws a change-up and drop. Ava Gundling: #3 Ava has good command of her fastball and change-up. Relies on control and changing speeds to be effective.
Can you describe your offense and what some of the strengths are?
Our offensive lineup has power and speed. Every player is ready to lay down the bunt when called upon.
IT’S TRICKY
