We had heard from several sources Thursday that Minnesota’s head coach, Jamie Trachsel, will be named the new head coach at Ole Miss, but this is a first: it’s already up as fact on Wikipedia (as of 10:30 pm EST)!
Go to Jamie Trachsel on the “free encyclopedia” of the internet and you’ll read: “Jamie Trachsel is an American softball coach who is the current head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels softball team.
And click on the Ole Miss link and it says: “The Rebels are coached by Jamie Trachsel, who will be in her first year as head coach in 2021.”
Hmmm….
Since the Wikipedia posts went up, numerous other media outlets confirmed the reports including the Minnesota Daily News and the Twin Cities Pioneer Press.
Trachsel had been at Minnesota since June 24, 2019, taking over after replacing Jessica Allister who left to take the Stanford head position.
Trachsel led the Gophers to a 41-17 record and a 2nd place finish in the Big Ten her first year in 2018 and a 46-14 record and a 20-2 mark in the Big Ten last season, good enough to finish 3rd in conference.
The school would eventually make it to the Women’s College World Series in 2019 with a #7 seed after going undefeated in the Regional and Super Regional rounds with wins over North Dakota State, Georgia (twice) and LSU to advance to the WCWS.
The Gophers went 15-9-1 this spring before the season was cancelled to give her a 346-184-1 (.653) career mark after she was at Iowa State in 2017 (23-35) and North Dakota State (221-109) from 2011-2016 where she was a co-head coach.
She will replace Mike Smith, who resigned as the head coach of Ole Miss in December, and interim head coach Ruben Felix, who led the SEC school to a 12-13 record this year.
