SOFTBALL PLAYING SCIENCE WHIZ
TLI is a big fan of science and weird science, but we love to highlight players that seek real science because, hopefully, one day that could lead to some kind of sci-fi that will help us finally get jet-packs. TLI desperately wants jet-packs.
That brings us to FL Firecrackers-Campo/Bias 2024 RHP/OF Ariana Garcia, who was representing South Sumter Middle School at the Science Fair on Tuesday in South Florida.
The softballer, who also has major volleyball skills, brought forth a hypothesis about plant health and voice tone.
“I tested the effects voice tones can have on plant growth,” Garcia said. “I tested my hypothesis for three weeks, talking to my plant subjects using the same exact words, but in different voice tones. I then recorded the daily growth of each. My hypothesis tested correctly and the plants that got the ‘meaner’ tone of voice were less green and recorded less growth. Basically, it’s not always what you say, but how to say it!!!”
Brilliant! TLI had to tell Garcia to remember that “with great brain power, comes great responsibility.”

SILEO GRABS GEORGIA STATE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Atlanta Vipers-Jiles MIF Jin Sileo of Dacula High was named Georgia 6A State Player of the Year. The Georgia Tech-bound lefty bat led Dacula to three region championship titles in 2016, 2017 and 2019 and a third place finish in the state tournament this past fall.
Hands down, best SS in the state. Finally, getting the recognition you deserve! ❤️ this kid and all the work she has put in. Dacula will be better for the next 4-6 years because of what she has done the last 4. #proudcoach https://t.co/6rndVb9jbi
