EXTRA INNING SCOUTING REPORT
With the 2020 high school softball season approaching, TLI will be taking a look at some of the top teams in the country with the Extra Inning Scouting Report.
TLI talked to Jonathan Alder High of Plain City, OH, coach Dave McGrew about his Pioneers, who won the OHSAA Division II state championship in 2019. Jonathan Alder ended up 30-1 and ranked #22 in the nation in the Extra Elite Eighty High School Rankings.
Let’s get to the Extra Inning Scouting Report of …
JONATHAN ALDER
Top Returners: We return eight starters of 10 from last year’s state championship team. The five Seniors have played all three previous years in the state final four. Three of the Seniors have been All-State award winners. Here are the key returners and their averages from last season:
*Jillian Jakse (2020, 3B, .527 avg, 15 HR, 56 RBIs)
*Emily Walker (2020, SS, .443 avg, 7 HR, 40 RBIs, 48 R, 23 SB)
*Lindsey Potter (2020, CF, .443 avg, 6 HR, 33 RBIs, 46 R, 19 SB)
*Marlee Jacobs (2022, P, .450 avg, 25 RBIs, Pitching: 25-1, 1.50 ERA, 129 Ks)
*Danielle Robbins (2022, LF, .500 avg, 14 SB)
*Kelsey McDonald (2020, 1B, defensive and mental leader on the team)
*Cierra Clark (2020, RF, .330 avg, had 13 throw outs from RF top 1B)
Top newcomers: Freshman Danielle Phipps is a pitcher and will help in the circle. Also, sophomore Kiley King will be a good prospect to take over the catcher duties.
Who is your No. 1 pitcher and what can you tell me about her skills? Who else could see some time in the circle? Our pitcher is a sophomore, who is one of the best in Ohio. Marlee Jacobs is her name and she had a great season. She got better as the year went and was lights out in the Districts, Regional and State.
What can we expect from your offense? Our team is very experienced and mature. We are blessed with some highly-talented kids with a GREAT work ethic. We are very solid defensively and we hit. Out team average last year was .402. We had 32 HRs and 80 stolen bases.
Did you pick up any impact transfers or did you lose any players to transfers? We did not pick up any transfers or move-ins. In my 11 years at Jonathan Alder, we have never had a move-in, open enroll transfer, etc. of any kind.
Who are the potential All-Section/All-District/All-State players on your team? Any of the kids I listed can earn awards from All-League , All-District to All-State. This group is special.
