How did you became a member of the Bolts organization?
In 6th grade, my local travel ball team played the Bolts, coached by Shane Cahalan at the time, and after the game an assistant coach approached my mom asking to come tryout. At the tryout, the coaches gave me a practice jersey with my #10 on it and the rest has been history.

Five years later, I am still wearing the purple, gold and teal.

Makayla has been a star in the Bolts program for five years… and it’s not just because “I always have the snacks!”

What do you feel you bring to the team?
My coaches and teammates have called me “bulldog” for years now for my grit and competitive mentality on the mound. I am a lefty pitcher, so I bring a different look than my righty counterparts on the team.

In the dugout, I bring a loud voice to pump up my teammates or be a set of ears for them to confide in. Most importantly, I always have the snacks!

What area are you focusing on/trying to improve this summer?
This summer I am focusing on being a consistent dominant presence on the mound in order to be a reliable arm for my team to play confidently behind me. On the mound specifically, I am trying to focus on my different levels in my different pitches.

Also, I am trying to provide more for my team at the plate and come through in big moments.

Can you tell us about Boulder IDT (this week in Colorado) and what you hope to accomplish at the event?
The Boulder IDT is always one of the toughest-fought tournaments of the entire summer. Last year, we played in the Sparkler as a first-year 16U team, but this year being the older 16U team we are in the IDT.

As a team, we are looking to compete every opportunity we get and find a way to make a deep run into the bracket. This will be the first tournament we will have our entire roster together, so I am excited to get rolling all together.

Why did you choose Georgia Tech?
Going into September 1, I knew I wanted to choose a school that would challenge me academically as well as providing me an opportunity to play ball at a high level. I have been attending Georgia Tech games since I was 8 and camps since it was available to me in 6th grade, so I was very familiar with the program, coaches and campus.

Also, I plan on majoring in engineering, so it was important to me to find a school that would fit those needs. I learned during my recruiting process that I wanted to be a workable distance from home, and Georgia Tech is less than an hour from my hometown in the heart of Atlanta with plenty of things going on around me.
