Tell us about Texas Sudden Impact and how you became involved with them?
I recently joined the Texas Sudden Impact organization out of The Woodlands, TX, this fall after playing for the Aces/Bombers HTX-Jacoby for the past three years. It was a hard decision to move teams. My sister had joined the organization before me and it was also much closer to where I live. I was driving an 1 hour and 30 minutes to practice each way, so it made sense for us to play for the same organization to help my parents out. I really hated to leave my team and coaches as we were very close and had been together a long time. It was the best thing for my family at the time, so I took the risk and was blessed to find my new team in the organization that wanted me on their team.

I have amazing new coaches and also am surrounded by some super talented teammates. I do miss the girls and coaches but this experience has also helped in a lot of ways. We had a good Fall and comped well against some of the top teams in the country and also beat some of them. I can’t wait to get back after it this Spring and Summer.

Brooklyn helped SI finish 5th at Colorado Sparkler last year.

How has the recruiting process been going? What do you have planned?
I have been excited about some of the coaches that have reached out or who have shown interest in me. I took an unofficial visit last year as a freshman to an amazing school and it was eye opening for me. It became real that I might actually get to play in college some day. At this point I am doing my research and trying to find the best fit for me. I have attended multiple camps and am appreciative of any coach that has shown interest in me as a recruit.

I know there are thousands of girls that want to play and for them to show me any interest is amazing. I still plan on attending more camps and visiting schools and meeting coaches. I try to email and send videos to coaches to hopefully find ones that might be interested in what I can do. I am lucky I have a great family support system that supports me in everything I do need, including things outside of softball.

What kind of training tips do you have for pitchers?
I have had the same pitching coach since 10U, so I am lucky. Coach Kendra Pate from MVP Pitching has taught me so much. She has specifically taught me how to spin the ball well. I would suggest to younger pitchers to work on spinning the ball more than anything. I think that being able to spin the ball effectively is more important than just having speed. Hitting a ball that moves is harder to hit than a ball that has speed and is flat.

What are some good drills for pitchers?
I think that the simple drills are more beneficial to a pitcher so I would say that doing my W drills and playing simple underhand catch has helped me a lot. Slowing down helps me focus on my mechanics and I think that having good mechanics is something every pitcher should strive for. I also do a lot of easy pitching for each of my pitches, so I can focus on my spin and mechanics.

What should we expect from your high school team this spring?
I think that my high school team has a lot of talent and is more than capable of making it to the playoffs again if we work together and attack every district game! I would like to go further in the playoffs and I think we can if we play well.
