Throwback Thursday: New to the Transfer Portal, Kassidy Krupit Has One Year Left to Play… But Could Coaching Be in Her Future (Like Last Summer)?

After her playing career finishes next year, Kassidy is setting up her future which looks to be in coaching…

It’s a time of excitement in college softball for many as the Regionals, Super Regionals and Women’s College World Series are coming up quickly, but for some it’s also a time of uncertainty and transition—especially for the 400-plus who have entered the transfer portal since March 1.

Kassidy Krupit has reason to smile after getting her Bachelor’s and now preparing for her Master’s degree in Sports Management.

This week, former South Carolina senior infielder Kassidy Krupit announced that she has entered the portal and will compete for her final year at a yet-to-be determined program. Whatever happens in relation to playing one year more between the lines, the Georgia native has a lot of experience and education to draw upon on and off the field.

Kassidy recently graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management from the University of South Carolina and also has the following impressive bullet points on her softball resume:

  • In 2021 for the Gamecocks, she hit .301 with 45 RBIs and had a .994 fielding percentage.
  • In 2020, in the COVID-shortened college season, she batted .308 with 19 RBIs in 22 games.
  • As a freshman in 2019 at Baylor, she hit 10 home runs with 29 RBIs.
  • That same year, she was selected to play on the Team USA Junior Women’s National Team.
  • At Lambert High in Suwanee, Georgia, she twice led her team to Class 7A Georgia State and Regional Championships.
  • Playing for the East Cobb Bullets 18U team coached by Greg Schnute, she and her team took first at the Boulder IT and third at Triple Crown Nationals.

While she may not know where her final year of college softball will be just yet, this fall Kassidy will start school to get her Masters in Sports Management Degree.

“I’m excited to begin my Master’s program and for my next journey!” she told Extra Inning Softball this week. “It will be my final year of softball and I’ll cherish every moment of it.”

No doubt her Sports Management degree will sharpen her on-field coaching skills, which grew last summer when Kassidy got some valuable experience leading not one, but two, club teams as the head coach.

Kassidy’s experience in softball includes playing for the USA Women’s Junior National Team in 2019.

And it’s definitely something she plans on doing in the future with the goal to someday coach at the level she’s at right now.

“I do want to pursue a coaching career at the collegiate level,” she admits. “Being in a Sports Management graduate program can best prepare me for what’s ahead. I love to learn and would benefit learning more about every aspect of athletics.”

For this Throwback Thursday, we revisit our story from last summer when Kassidy called the shots as we hope she gets to down the road…

What do college players do during the summer?

In one case evident at the Atlanta Legacy Invitational today, current SEC standout first baseman Kassidy Krupit is putting her Sport & Entertainment Management degree to good use.

The junior first baseman for the South Carolina Gamecocks, who hit .301 this year with a .359 on-base percentage and had 45 RBIs in 52 games, is giving back to the next wave of softball players by coaching not one, but two East Cobb Bullets teams.

Assisting for the 16U squad from New Jersey as well as being the head coach of another team, a 14U squad, Kassidy not only has the DI experience to share with younger athletes, she also has the fire to help young softballers get better.

“I want to go into collegiate coaching because of my passion for the game,” she said today after calling pitches for Bryan Garrett’s 16U Bullets team which was winning big before a lightning storm put a premature end to the day’s contests.

Extra Inning Softball’s Brentt Eads caught up with Kassidy today to learn more about her aspiring coaching career… here’s the interview:

… and here are photos from the day’s action of Kassidy coaching thanks to photos provided by Mike Mendez, whose daughter Mavica plays on the 16U team:
