USA Softball: Stand Beside Her Tour… Nine Stops & Growing After Games Added in Michigan, Virginia, Texas & Alabama

The “Stand Beside Her” tour is a series of competitions and The “Stand Beside Her” message encourages fans everywhere to stand united in their support of the WNT and the United States in their journey to the Olympic Games.

The tour will kick off in February with the USA squad competing in a pair of prestigious college tournaments and run through the summer right up to the start of the Tokyo games.

The 2020 USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT) announced over the last month several additional stops on its Stand Beside Her Tour featuring a series of competitions and training opportunities for the 2020 USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT) as it prepares for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Olympic competition will start July 22, 2020 with the Gold Medal Game being played on July 28.

As created and first announced in August by USA Softball, the Stand Beside Her tour “evokes a powerful message of unity aimed to inspire communities to stand beside HER – the members of the WNT, America and the future generation of female athletes.”

Currently there are nine stops on the tour hitting seven states and extending from February to June prior to next summer’s Olympic Games:

Michigan

The USA Team will be in Central Michigan for a pair of stops announced by USA Softball on Friday (Nov. 8) of this week.

Midland, Mich. and East Lansing, Michigan were announced as two of the cities on the tour that will host the Red, White and Blue as they look to capture the Gold Medal in Tokyo when the sport of softball returns to the Olympic program for the first time since 2008.

Hosted by USA Softball of Michigan, the 2020 WNT will be in Midland, Mich. June 9 for an exhibition doubleheader before heading to East Lansing, Mich. on June 10 for another two-game contest.

Amanda Chidester will return home to Michigan for the games in Midland and East Lansing.

“I am beyond excited that Team USA will be playing in Michigan,” said USA Softball WNT member Amanda Chidester, who hails from Allen Park, Mich.

“This is a huge opportunity for all of Michigan’s softball fans and players to have the chance to watch the best-of-the-best. I have had the pleasure of working with so many young aspiring softball players in the state of Michigan and I would encourage them all to come out and see what dreaming big truly can get you. I have a huge support system in Michigan, and I can’t wait to see them all come out to East Lansing and Midland to support Team USA on our journey to the Gold!”

During the Midland, Mich. tour stop, fans will have the opportunity to watch the Red, White and Blue at Dow Diamond (325 E Main Street, Midland, Michigan 48640), home of the Great Lake Loons. Game 1 will take place at 5 p.m. ET with the second game taking place roughly 30 minutes after the end of game one. Admission to the Midland, Mich. doubleheader will be free to the public.

Dow Diamond is no stranger to international softball as the venue has previously hosted the USA Softball Slow Pitch National Teams for Border Battle VII and Border Battle XI.

During the East Lansing, Mich. tour stop, Team USA will play a doubleheader at Secchia Stadium (100 Jenison Field House, East Lansing, Michigan 48823), home of the Michigan State Spartans. Game 1 will take place at 5 p.m. ET with the second game taking place roughly 30 minutes after the end of game one. General admission tickets are on sale for $5 at www.lansingsports.org/USASoftball or by visiting the Greater Lansing Sports Authority offices (500 E. Michigan Ave, Suite 185, Lansing, Mich. 48912).

Virginia

Salem, Virginia joined the list of cities hosting the Red, White and Blue when USA Softball made the announcement on Thursday (Nov. 7) that Team USA would face an all-star team of local all-star players in an exhibition game less than a month from the start of the Olympics in Tokyo.

“It’s exciting to go to new places where we will be able to see new fans who love Team USA,” said 2020 WNT Member, Aubree Munro. “With Salem being towards the end of our tour, we’re hoping that everyone comes out to ‘Stand Beside Her’ – us – as we get ready to leave for the Olympics! Help us go out with a bang and feel all the love and support before we get to the big stage.”

Played at Kiwanis Park (731 Indiana St, Salem, Virginia 24153), Team USA will face the Salem All-Stars, which will be comprised of athletes from universities and colleges in the area, on June 25 for a single exhibition game at 7 p.m. ET.

Hosted by USA Softball of Piedmont, Va., tickets for the game went on sale November 8 and can be purchased by clicking here or by calling the Salem Civic Center Box Office at 540-375-3004.

Advanced sale General Admission ticket prices are $20 for adults and $15 for youth while Advanced Reserved ticket prices are $25 for adults and $20 for youth. Tickets can also be purchased on June 25 at the venue with General Admission tickets $25 and $15 for youth and Reserved tickets for $30 for adults and $25 for youth.   Groups of 15-or-more can also purchase discounted tickets for $12.

Georgia

Two stops in the Peach State for next April were announced by USA Softball on October 22, 2019 as a pair of exhibition contests in Columbus and Woodstock, Georgia were made public.

“As athletes, we love that the tour allows us the opportunity to visit so many places across the country,” said 2020 WNT member, Cat Osterman. “Southern hospitality is a real thing, and we received such a warm welcome in Columbus last summer. We are excited to return to the city where Olympic softball started. It’s fun to have that history as part of our tour to Tokyo.”

Hosted by USA Softball of Georgia, the U.S. will play a pair of solo exhibition games, first in Columbus, Georgia. on Friday, April 3 and then Woodstock, Georgia. on Sunday, April 5.

Columbus, Georgia. will host Team USA on April 3 for a doubleheader with the first game taking place at 5 p.m. ET and the second game approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

Both contests will be played at South Commons Softball Complex (400 4th St., Columbus, Ga. 31901) which recently hosted the 2019 USA Softball International Cup and served as the site of the 1996 Olympic Games for the sport of softball.

Tickets are on sale at ColumbusGaSports.com through March 31, 2020.  VIP tickets are $25 and General Admission tickets available for $15 while children 5-and-under are free. Groups with 20 or more can purchase discounted tickets for $10 per person.

From Columbus, Team USA will head to Woodstock, Georgia. on April 5 for a doubleheader with the first game taking place at 1 p.m. ET and the second game approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

The games will be played at Twin Creeks Softball Complex (250 Brooke Blvd) and tickets are on sale at CRPA.net. Advanced tickets start at $15 for youth and senior citizens while adults are $20 and children 5-and-under are free.

Groups with 15 or more can purchase discounted tickets for $10 per person. Tickets will also be on sale on site the day of the tour stop and will be $20 for youth and senior citizens and $25 for adults.

Texas

The 2020 USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT) will be in Midland, Texas at Security Bank Ballpark on April 25, 2020 competing in the home of the Midland RockHounds, a minor league baseball Double-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics it was announced on October 18.

“I’m excited to have a tour stop in Midland, Texas,” said 2020 WNT member Kelsey Stewart. “We have had a few games in Texas before and the amount of hospitality, both from our hosts and our fans, is unbelievable. No matter the weather, the fans in Texas show up in the masses and we are excited to have the opportunity to play in from of them as we are gearing up for the Olympics.”

In Midland, fans will have the opportunity to watch Team USA compete against Lubbock Christian on April 25 in a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. CT. Game 2 will take place approximately 35 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.

Played at Security Bank Ballpark (5514 Champions Drive, Midland, Texas, 79706), individual tickets for the games will be on sale beginning February 1, 2020 at www.milb.com/midland/tickets.

Reserved tickets are available for $16 while group tickets are available for purchase now by calling the RockHounds Front Office at 432-520-2255.

Alabama

On October 14, USA Softball announced the Women’s National Team (WNT) would travel to the University of Alabama to face off against the Alabama Crimson Tide on March 31, 2020.

Hosted by USA Softball of Alabama, it will be a homecoming for 2020 WNT member Haylie McCleney, who graduated from the University of Alabama in 2016.

“The passion of the Alabama fans is second to none,” said McCleney. “Not only are they knowledgeable about the game, but they show up in huge numbers and relentlessly support all players, no matter the team. It’s loud, it’s crazy, it’s surreal. It’s the best atmosphere in the country. It’s a perfect place to play for the tour.”

During the Tuscaloosa tour stop, fans will have the opportunity to watch the Red, White and Blue compete against the 2020 Alabama Crimson Tide roster on March 31 in a solo contest scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Played at Rhoads Stadium (321 Peter Bryce Blvd, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35401), tickets for the game will go on sale November 19 and can be purchased at RollTide.com. General admission tickets are available for $20 for adult and $15 for youth while grandstand tickets are $30.

“It’s such an honor for our program to get to play the 2020 Olympic team,” said Alabama Head Coach, Patrick Murphy. “We are thrilled to welcome them to the Rhoads House in March. It means even more to have Haylie McCleney playing at home one more time roaming centerfield in front of her fans.”
