Announcing Exciting Developments Ahead: Looking to 2026!

Announcing a New Chapter

As I look ahead to 2026, I feel a deep sense of excitement—and responsibility. Extra Inning Softball has grown far beyond what it was when we first started.

What began as an exciting passion project rooted in fairness, integrity, and storytelling has become a national platform that families, athletes, and college coaches rely on. With that growth comes the opportunity to do more, and in 2026, we are doing exactly that.

The coming year represents a meaningful evolution in how we evaluate, educate, and cover the game. These changes are not about chasing trends. They are about listening to the community, responding to the needs of college coaches, and continuing to protect the developmental journey of young athletes.

These exciting developments will enhance the experience for everyone involved.

Expanded Positional Rankings

A major step forward begins with the Class of 2030. We are expanding our positional rankings to separate middle infielders and corner players, rather than grouping all infielders together.

This change reflects how the game is actually played at the collegiate level. Middle infielders and corner athletes bring different defensive responsibilities, athletic profiles, and recruiting considerations. Evaluating them together no longer serves athletes—or coaches—well.

By making this shift, we are providing fairer comparisons, clearer recruiting data, and more meaningful insight for the softball community. This rollout will begin with the Class of 2030 and will continue to shape how we evaluate future classes.

We are thrilled about these exciting changes and their positive impact on the game.

Team Rankings Are Coming

In 2026, we will also begin rolling out team rankings. This is something our community has asked for, and we have taken the time to ensure it is done thoughtfully.

Team rankings will provide additional context around competitive environments, player development, and program consistency. Team rankings will bring exciting new insights for fans and players alike.

More details will be shared in the weeks ahead, but this expansion reflects our commitment to offering a more complete picture of the fastpitch ecosystem.

Expanded Tournament Coverage

Tournament performance has always been a key part of how we evaluate athletes, and in 2026, we are expanding our tournament coverage significantly. This includes deeper analysis of key events, improved weighting, and more visibility into how competition level factors into rankings.

Quality of competition matters. Context matters. And expanding this coverage strengthens both our evaluations and our storytelling. Download our EIS App HERE

A Stronger Focus on Education

One of the areas I am most excited about in 2026 is the expansion of our educational content. Extra Inning Softball is not just about rankings—it is about helping families make informed decisions.

This exciting expansion will provide valuable resources for families.

We will be increasing our educational offerings to include interviews with sleep specialists, nutritionists, and performance professionals, along with practical guidance on recruiting, interviewing, player development, and navigating today’s complex softball landscape. This is about equipping families with trusted insight they can actually use.
