Club News: Top Pair of Scrap Yard International Teams Move to Texas Sudden Impact Organization

The two highest-aged teams for Scrap Yard International have moved to the Texas Sudden Impact organization.

Effective as of today, the Scrap Yard Internationals 18U and 16U teams will dissolve and will return to the Texas Sudden Impact Organization from which they originated.

“During the three-year merger with Scrap Yard,” begins Todd Leach, the new Texas Sudden Impact organization President and 18U coach, “the teams accomplished unprecedented goals of international travel, highest level national competition and global sportsmanship.”

In 2018, both teams went to Tokyo, Japan and played Tokyo Women’s College in multiple exhibition games. The players also attended games at the Women’s Softball World Championship.

In continuing the opportunity to experience the global sports community, both teams accepted an invite to compete at the Canada Cup in Surrey, British Columbia in the summer of 2019 and were scheduled to return to the Canada Cup in 2020 before COVID-19 prohibited international travel.

This summer, Scrap Yard Internationals ended on a high note with some notable finishes:

  • Texas Gold Cup Runner Up (18s)
  • Sparkler/Fireworks Texas Regional – Runner Up (18s &16s)
  • TCS Southern Nationals – 5th (16s)
  • TFL World Series Finalist – T7 (18s)
  • US Club Rankings: 2019 -18 & Under Final National Rankings – 3-Year Composite – 7th.

“There is great momentum in transitioning back to Texas Sudden Impact, as it is a nationally recognized and ranked organization with a long history of success,” explains Leach, who has four softball playing daughters including former Tennessee Vols All-American infielder Aubrey Leach, current Texas Tech standout catcher Kelcy Leach and twin outfielders Allanah and Gabby Leach, who are 2023 grads and both were recently ranked in the Top 30 of the Extra Elite 100.

Bill Jones will be the new Texas SI 16U coach and Lisa Norris will be the Pitching Coordinator and 18U Assistant Coach. Leach has continued to be the President of the Sudden Impact during the merger of the 18’s and 16’s with the younger SI teams and is returning the older aged teams to where they started.

Texas Sudden Impact is one of the first prominent travel teams in Houston and has a long list of alumni going back to 2007 that have played in top college programs around the country, including College World Series teams, Team USA squads and pro teams.

Based out of SMGSL Park in The Woodlands, Texas, the Texas Sudden Impact organization will have teams in 10U thru 18U for the upcoming 2020-2021 season while fielding only one 18U and one 16U team in the organization for “optimal success.”

“We are committed to producing quality softball players that are prepared to compete at the highest levels,” continues Leach. “Our objective is to provide our players with a program that is dedicated to the development of softball skills and the values of teamwork, commitment, self-confidence, sportsmanship, good character and a work ethic that creates a winning attitude on and off the field along with academic support and tutelage.”
