Club News: Virginia Unity Adds Megan Betsa 18U Team

Former Michigan All-American pitcher Megan Betsa announced today that her 18U team will now play under the banner of the Virginia Unity organization.

Former Michigan great Megan Betsa announced earlier today that she has moved her 18U Betsa/Herbert club team to be with the Virginia Unity organization.

Previously, the squad played in the Lady Dukes program and last Fall (2022) won the Show Me the Money Tournament (18U) in Orlando and, finished with a 15-2 record in the Fall.

Last Summer, the team took 3rd at Triple Crown Nationals, placed in the Top 8 in the Colorado Sparkler (Supplemental Power Bracket) and finished in the Top 16 in the Top Gun Maverick Division.

Currently, the new Unity team has two commits to Michigan and one each to Pitt, Duke, Princeton, Columbia, Florida Atlantic and Ohio University.

Making the accomplishments even that more impressive is the fact that team went 3-10 in its first Fall together, in 2021.

“In one year,” the coach explains, “we made such a big leap forward because of our efforts put into development and recruiting players to join what we are building. We’ve gone from the ground up and know that joining this organization is only going to allow us continued success, growth, and unlimited opportunities by wearing Unity across our chests.”

Betsa, who was a three-time All-American for the Wolverines (see her complete “resume” below along with that of Co-Head coach Logan Hebert) and is also currently a private pitching instructor, told Extra Inning Softball earlier today about the decision to move to the title-winning travel ball organization founded by Josh Johnson and today remains an organizational head as well as head coach.

“After speaking with Josh about what he is doing and how he is doing it, we knew that Unity was the right fit for our team,” she said.

“We wanted to be somewhere that was invested in helping our kids live out their dreams of playing softball at the highest level with integrity. We are beyond thrilled to be a part of what Josh has going on and can’t wait to get started this summer.”

Coach Johnson, who is a three-time National Championship coach and was featured in an Extra Inning Softball From the Cheapseats podcast two weeks ago (click HERE to access it), is understandably excited to be pulling in the winning team and coaching staff.

“Wow!” he began, “What a great day for Unity Softball! We had the opportunity to add a remarkable coaching staff, a talented roster, and committed parents to the roster so I jumped on the opportunity!”

“Megan was extremely successful as a player and her teams have experienced the same success through her leadership!  I look forward to assisting her and her teams in the future, while growing and developing the game with likeminded individuals! Team and organization success equals individual attention!”
