Club Player Spotlight: 2024 Extra Elite 100 Infielder Tia Milloy… “I Would Love to Be Remembered as Someone Who Loves the Game”

Tia Milloy on the field, where she most loves to be!

One of the most impressive organizations at PGF Nationals this week would have to be the Northwest Bullets out of Washington.

The 18U team, entering Friday’s action, is one of four undefeated teams still in the Winner’s Bracket and the 16U team impressed as well, including 2024 Extra Elite 100 infielder Tia Milloy.

The updated 2024’s will begin in August and last fall we wrote this about the standout from the state of Washington:

T-52—Tia Milloy, MIF, Northwest Bullets 16U
If the same sounds familiar, it’s because Tia is part of the Milloy family which included NFL wide receiver Lawyer Milloy and his daughters Amirah and Kiki who made it to the college softball scene—Amirah at Washington and Kiki at Tennessee. Tia like the rest in her family is a very athletic player with tons of projectability. Says Coach Dennis Muir, “She possesses several tools that make her unique.” Offensively she is a power hitter with excellent speed and explosiveness and defensively, as a middle infielder, her natural range and angles to the ball “can’t be taught” per the coach.  “We are very excited to see her compete on the national stage for the NW Bullets team this year,” he concludes.

Kiki, in fact, was recently added to the USA Women’s National Team to compete in the Japan All-Star Series… you can read about that by clicking HERE.

This week, Coach Muir said this about Tia, his talented incoming junior:

“Her combination of speed and power are not taught. She can hit the ball out of the ballpark and drag bunt for a hit and steal second when needed.”

We caught up with Tia this week and here’s the latest on this talented athlete who says:

“… Softball is my first love… I couldn’t give it up and I would do anything to be on the field.”

What’s been your most memorable softball experience?
My most memorable softball experience was winning the 4A high school state championship this past spring.

What would you say are your strengths on the field?
I would say that my communication is pretty strong. Whether it’s encouraging my pitcher or talking the situation between pitches, I am constantly talking.

Have you set personal goals for yourself for this year?
My goal is to get a call on September 1st. It’s something that I have been working towards for a long time and I am excited for that day. My ultimate goal is to just continue to get better every day and with every rep that I take. There is always so much of the game that I can learn and improve on.

Do you have any softball superstitions?
If my socks are marked for which foot it is supposed to be on, the right sock will always be on the right foot and the left sock is always on the left foot. Also, if you drop the ball throwing around the horn you should kiss it.

What would you say is your philosophy in life?
Be the best version of yourself or be intentional with what you do.

If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would it be on-field? Off the field?
On the field: dedicated. Off the field: outgoing.

What worries you most about what classmates your age are facing in the future?
I would say that global warming and overall climate change is affecting us more and more each day.

If you won a million dollars and had to spend it all in 24 hours, how would you spend it?
I would buy a lot of shoes, buy a G wagon, take my whole family on a trip to Hawaii, donate $100,000 to the children’s hospital, invest in Amazon and Microsoft stocks, and save the rest for retirement.

The NW Bullets 16U team having fun!

What’s been your favorite vacation or place you’ve visited?
I’ve been to Puerta Vallerta, Mexico twice to watch both of my older sisters play.

What’s been your favorite place you’ve placed softball?
Huntington Beach for PGF.

What’s the biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome in life?
I tore my wrist while playing softball during COVID. It made me realize how much I loved the sport when it gotten taken away from me.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what’s the one thing you’d want to have with you (sorry: can’t be a phone as they’re no cell towers nearby!):
A boat so I can leave!

If you could have dinner with anyone… living or dead… who would it be?
Kobe Bryant.

Finally, what’s one thing or accomplishment about you that is unusual or unique about you that few know?
I skipped first grade.

EXTRA INSIGHTS:
The Milloy family

What drives you to play the game of softball?
My family. My two older sisters have competed at the collegiate level and my parents also succeeded in their sports at high levels. They push me every day to be better.

My 2022 LXT .

Favorite item(s) in your closet:
My Jordan 1’s, 4’s, 11’s, and 5’s.

Best way to unwind is…
Change into comfy clothes and take a nap.

If you have 30 minutes to shop and $100 to spend, where do you go?
Lululemon.

What’s playing in your headphones right now?
R&B, specifically Giveon’s new album.

Celebrity you’d like most to hang out with…
Nikki Glaser.

Favorite college uniform (and why):
Clemson, because their white uniforms have cool accents like tiger stripes in the words.

Calories aside, what food could you eat and never get sick of?
Any Asian foods: ramen, poke, spam musubi, pancit, sushi.

Best talent off the field?
I am very crafty and can DIY anything but I’m the best at embroidery.

What have you learned most about yourself over the last year or two?
I have learned that softball is my first love. I couldn’t give it up and I would do anything to be on the field.

Who inspires you (athletically & non-athletically):
Athletically: My older sisters Kiki and Amirah. Non-athletically: My mom.

When you leave the game of softball, how do you want to be remembered and what will you do when you’re finished playing to help grow the game?
I would love to be remembered as someone who loves the game and leaves no doubt on the field. I would love to see more girls that look like me and other women of color succeeding in this sport. My degree would help me stay in the sports world and that is how I would help to grow softball.
