Club Team News: Talented Georgia-Based 18U Team Joins the Texas Bombers Organization

The former 18U East Cobb Bullets- Stephens team will now compete under the Texas Bombers banner.

For the second time this year, a high-profile travel ball team based in Georgia has announced that it has aligned itself with the Texas Bomber organization led by Scott Smith.

Coaches Richard Johnson and Dana Stephens

In April, national championship-winning coach Patrick Lewis, who had previously been with the Georgia Impact program, made the switch to the Bombers. Click HERE to read that story.

In this case, like with that of Lewis, it involved an 18U team making the move to the Bombers as the East Cobb Bullets 18U Stephens squad—led by Head Coach Dana Stephens along with Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Director Richard Johnson—have made the transition official.

“We are elated to take the next big steps in our softball coaching journey,” begins Coach Stephens. “As the travel softball world continues to evolve, we want to be positioned to do all that we can to support our players and families. We believe the Texas Bombers organization allows us to be prepared for the ever-changing landscape of our game.”

Coach Stephens team emphasizes he’s appreciative of the time spent with the Bullets.

“We appreciate the EC Bullets organization for the many great years and the chance to represent our players in this competitive travel softball world,” he continues. “A special thank you to Coach Greg Schnute for his strong support over the years. Our players have had great success in earning their way to playing at the collegiate level.”

Coaches Stephens and Johnson say that they take great pride in emphasizing player development and helping their athletes be recruited to college programs that fit them academically, athletically and socially.

“We felt it is an excellent opportunity to be a Bomber and be able to offer our players the great resources of the Bombers organization. We are heavy on player development. That’s what we do,” says Stephens.

“The Bombers are on the cutting-edge using data analysis that will help take that development to another level. Their commitment to empowering student-athletes and their families is impeccable. We are excited to represent that here in Georgia and the Southeast. We would like to thank Coaches Smith and Lewis for the opportunity!”

Current standouts on the team include (l-r) Sanam Shaikh (Delaware State), Nazari Jackson (Morehead State), Britney Phally (Delaware State), Bella O’Connor (Palm Beach Atlantic), and Maya Montague (Georgia State).

Coach Stephens and Coach Johnson have over 20 years combined coaching experience in the travel softball arena. Stephens has also coached four years at the high school level and has added former D1 collegiate players Veronica Burse (FAMU) and Dorian Edwards (Alabama A&M) to their staff.

Pitcher Makayla Stephens is one of the fastest rising prospects in the South

Over the past three seasons they have helped over 35 athletes develop and find their fit at the collegiate level.

Top prospects to watch on the team include in 2024 class outfielder Morgan Willingham, pitcher Athens Hudsons and pitcher Janea Hudson, to along with the 2023 class of talented players including Karly Casey (uncommitted), Peyton Nicholson (Georgia State), Kendall Smiley (Alabama State), Mariyah Brown (Tennessee State) Shelby Edwards, (Alabama State), Alora Bevily (Alabama State) and one of the top pitchers in Georgia Makayla Stephens.

Coach Johnson adds:

“I am very excited about joining the Bombers organization as I feel it will allow us to continue to help our players and families navigate the recruiting process while helping them find the program that best fits their needs”. I am confident the excellent reputation of the Bombers and their top national team rankings will be very beneficial to our players and families.

“It’s exciting to see how the Bombers have embraced all the changes that are occurring in the softball world, and to be part of those changes” Having had players recruited to programs such as Middle Tennessee State, UAB, University of Chicago, Georgia State, Delaware State, Alabama State and a host of others it’s important to be with a very progressive club.”

“We look forward to what the future holds!” Coach Johnson adds.
