CHICKASHA – The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma announced the addition of Lynnsie Elam-Phillips to the softball coaching staff heading into the 2023-24 season. Elam-Phillips is well known in the world of softball, having won a pair of NCAA National Championships at the University of Oklahoma.

“I’m so thankful for the opportunity to begin my coaching career at USAO,” Elam-Phillips said. “Chickasha is a special place to me and getting to coach at the college level in my hometown is a dream come true. I can’t wait to continue to give back to this community and the sport of softball. Go Drovers!”

In addition to the team championships, Elam-Phillips earned numerous individual awards as well, including 2022 NFCA All-Central Region First Team, 2022 Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team, 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team, Big 12 Player of the Week (3/22/22), 2021 Big 12 All-Tournament Team selection, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 Academic All-Big 12 First Team.

Elam-Phillips just completed her first season of professional softball as a member of the Oklahoma City Spark, alongside former Drover and current USAO assistant coach Emily Cerny, as well as USAO head coach Jadyn Wallis. In her first season as a pro, the catcher appeared in 27 games and produced a .236 batting average with 17 hits, a double, four home runs, 16 runs batted in, and seven runs scored. Additionally, she was nearly perfect on defense, concluding the season with a .993 fielding percentage after only committing one error in over 130 opportunities.

While at OU, she appeared in 199 games from 2018-2022, as the Sooners solidified their most recent dynasty. Elam-Phillips concluded her collegiate career with an impressive .301 batting average, along with 133 hits, 18 doubles, two triples, 40 home runs, 98 runs scored, and 138 RBIs. Furthermore, she produced a .622 slugging percentage and a .352 on base percentage, while only striking out 64 times in her entire career. Defensively, she owned a sterling fielding percentage of .993, with only eight errors in over 1,100 opportunities.

“We are so excited to add Lynnsie to the coaching staff and she is going to be a huge asset to the USAO softball program,” Wallis said. “She has the perfect combination of great character and ability perform, along with lots of knowledge of the game.”

Coming to USAO is a homecoming for Elam-Phillips, who was a star at Chickasha High School. While at CHS, she led her team to four district championships, three regional titles, and a pair of state championships. As a senior, she hit .491 with five home runs, 44 runs scored, 50 runs batted in, and 23 stolen bases en route to earning named all-district, all-region and all-state honors. She was named All-District Catcher of the Year as a freshman and All-District Offensive Player of the Year during her sophomore season.
