It’s the fun time of the college preseason when you have tournaments like the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational and the ACC/Big Ten Challenge to get interesting match-ups you normally don’t see, but which have serious impact on our Extra Inning/JWOS College Power Rankings: Week 2 list.

Here’s our Week 2 rankings as compiled by our college correspondent Justin McLeod, publisher of Justin’s World of Softball (JWOS).

*****

1.  Florida State Seminoles (11-0, last week: 1)
The defending champs remain undefeated on the year, with wins over three teams in the top seven in our rankings (#4 Oklahoma; #6 LSU; and #7 Tennessee).

2. UCLA Bruins (9-0, last week: 2)
In advance of some marquee games at the Mary Nutter Classic, the Bruins earned a hard-fought win over Loyola Marymount, as well as Ole Miss and Fresno State.

3. Florida Gators (11-0, last week: 3)
The two-time national champions maintained their perfect record in 2019, winning their second game of the year over Illinois State and besting Arizona State.

4. Oklahoma Sooners (9-1, last week: 4)
A loss to #1 Florida State is the only blemish on the Sooners’ resume that also includes wins over Kentucky and Notre Dame.

5. Alabama Crimson Tide (10-0, last week: 8)
Patrick Murphy’s Tide kept rolling, taking home wins over South Florida, Cal State Fullerton, and then-top 10 Arizona in their home stadium.

6. Washington Huskies (8-1, last week: 6)
The Huskies’ second week in Puerto Vallarta took their winning streak to seven straight games and included victories over Arkansas; Mississippi State; Central Florida; and North Dakota State.

7. Tennessee Lady  Vols (8-2, last week: 5)
Three wins over teams receiving votes in national polls headlined the Lady Vols’ time in Clearwater, while losses to James Madison and Florida State marred the squad’s record as the first losses of the year.

8. LSU Tigers (9-2, last week: 7)
A 3-2 showing in Clearwater saw the Tigers fall to Oregon and Florida State, while earning wins against a pair of Big 12 teams in Oklahoma State and Texas, as well as Ohio State.

9. Texas Longhorns (7-1, last week: 9)
A loss to LSU saw the Longhorns leave Clearwater with a 3-1 record that included the program’s first loss under Mike White. Nevertheless, the Horns look like a top team to stay.

10. Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns (11-0, last week: 12)
The Cajuns remained perfect in their second hosted tournament of the year, against a group of mid-major competition that should be more of a warm-up for the Cajuns’ approaching road schedule.

11. Georgia Bulldogs (9-1, last week: 11)
An offensive onslaught highlighted the Bulldogs’ home-opening tournament: the squad’s hitters outscored their opponents 60-4 across five games.

12. Arkansas Razorbacks (8-1, last week: 13)
A tight loss to Top 10 Washington was the lone blemish during the Hogs’ trip south of the border that also included a trio of wins against North Dakota State, Sacramento State, and Northern Colorado.

13. Indiana Hoosiers (9-0, last week: 15)
The Hoosiers’ hot start continues in Shonda Stanton’s second year in Bloomington; the squad posted a perfect 4-0 mark during the ACC/Big Ten Challenge against Syracuse and Duke.

14. James Madison Dukes (3-2, last week: 22)
After debuting a week later than most teams, the Dukes earned wins over Tennessee and Oregon, losing to Kentucky and Cal. Megan Good looks back to her old self in her return from injury.

15. Texas Tech Red Raiders (10-0, last week: NR)
The Red Raiders are off to their hottest start in years and the longest they’ve gone undefeated into a season in the Adrian Gregory era.

16. Arizona Wildcats (6-4, last week: 10)
Seen as a potential WCWS contender in the preseason, the Wildcats lost a rematch to South Florida in their home opener, later falling to Alabama while a win over Cal State Fullerton highlighted the weekend.

17. Oregon Ducks (7-2, last week: 20)
A victory over LSU continued the Ducks’ hot streak to start the season, while run-rule losses to James Madison and Kentucky brought the squad back down to earth a bit. Jordan Dail remains solid in the circle.

18. South Carolina Gamecocks (7-2, last week: 21)
Hosting their home opener against a number of regional teams, the Gamecocks outscored their opponents 40-13 in four games. The squad reached double-digit runs twice on the weekend.

19. Virginia Tech Hokies (9-0, last week: NR)
The Hokies posted a trio of shutouts in their four-game weekend set, allowing just three runs in a single game against East Tennessee State. The Hokies are off to a perfect start under head coach Pete D’Amour.

20. Oklahoma State Cowgirls (7-3, last week: 14)
After beginning the St. Pete/Clearwater tournament with a pair of losses, to LSU and Notre Dame, the Cowgirls rebounded with wins over Utah, Cal, and Hofstra to close out the weekend.

21. Arizona State Sun Devils (8-2, last week: 18)
The Sun Devils took a 7-2 loss at the hands of #3 Florida, but went 4-1 on the weekend with a quartet of wins over mid-major opponents, including a 10-2 victory over Utah State.

22. Oregon State Beavers (8-2, last week: NR)
The Beavers enter our rankings for the first time, despite a 3-2 weekend showing that included wins over Long Beach State and Fresno State, but ended with losses to Ole Miss and in a rematch vs. LBSU.

23. Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (10-1, last week: 24)
The Lady Techsters’ sole loss came in a lopsided defeat at the hands of a solid Wichita State team, but the Techsters remain one of the premier mid-majors.

24. Illinois Fighting Illini (7-2, last week: NR)
Outscoring their opponents by a margin of 41-19, the Illini swept through the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and finished 4-0 at their host site. The Illini’s resume already looks impressive with opening-weekend wins over Kentucky, Oklahoma State, and Houston.

25. Mississippi State Bulldogs (6-3, last week: 23)
A lackluster performance in Puerto Vallarta included wins over Sacramento State and Central Florida, as well as losses to Southern Illinois and Washington.

Dropped from rankings: #16 North Carolina State; #17 Baylor; #19 Michigan; #25 Texas A&M
