Golden Glove Award – 3/31/25

MaxPreps and Extra Inning Softball have partnered to elevate high school softball coverage with the introduction of the MaxPreps & Extra Inning Softball Golden Awards. This initiative will highlight standout athletes in three key areas: Golden Glove, Golden Arm, and Golden Bat. Throughout the season, top players in each category will be recognized, with final awards presented at the end of the high school season.

What is the Golden Glove Award?

Defense is a critical part of the game, and the Golden Glove Award honors the most skilled defensive players in high school softball. While offensive numbers often grab headlines, game-changing defensive plays can define a team’s success. This award ensures that elite fielders receive the recognition they deserve.

Starting every other Monday, March 17 – June 13 the top 25 defensive players from each region will be featured in the High School Rankings. To qualify, athletes must:

  • Maintain a perfect fielding percentage – 1.000
  • Play at least five games
  • Have a minimum of 50 total defensive chances

“McKenna is one of the most coachable kids! Behind the plate, she is a wall with a high softball IQ. This season, she already has a number of pick-offs and caught stealings. She is the backstop behind the No. 1 high school pitching staff in Idaho and one of the top staffs in the region. This Idaho State commit is making a name for herself—a name to be remembered,” said her coach, John Carpenter.

Regional Standouts

Extra Inning Softball divides the country into six distinct regions—Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, Mountain, and West—to ensure balanced and comprehensive coverage of the top fastpitch softball players nationwide.

When asked how she mentally prepares to be a strong defensive presence, Hal’e Martin of Canyon Hills (San Diego) shared, “I visualize every possible situation before it happens, so when it does, I’ve already seen it and know exactly how to react. Preparation and repetition in practice build my confidence, and a strong bond with my pitching staff and infield makes executing plays second nature.”
