Chloe Lackey has dreamed of playing in the Southeastern Conference for as long as she can remember, and on September 9th, the coaching staff at the University of South Carolina helped change this dream to a reality.
Watching her brother play baseball growing up, Chloe longed to get into the game as well, wanting to be just like her sibling. She found travel ball and fell in love with the sport, and the goal of playing at the collegiate level slowly started to form in the young athlete’s mind.
“My first year of 16U I joined Tennessee Mojo—Abernathy and started playing in the big-time exposure tournaments for the first time,” recalled Chloe. “I remember being so ecstatic when I started getting interest from college coaches. It felt like I was getting closer to achieving my dream.”

She began to attend camps at the top programs on her list, but where Chloe really shone during the recruitment process was her game-time performance.
“Chloe is a gamer,” shared Mojo coach Matt Abernathy. “She elevates her game when it counts, always rising to the occasion against the toughest competition. There’s no way to appreciate what Chloe brings to the table quite like watching her during competition. She is a clutch player and great at making things happen for the team.”
However, when September 1st arrived for the 2024 last year, she ultimately did not find a program she was ready to commit to at that point.
