Ella Morris, a 2024 outfielder for Strykers National 18U Esparza, has announced her commitment to play softball and earn her degree at the University of Rhode Island.
From a northern town in Florida, Fleming Island, the transition to the Northeast is surely to be a shock, but Ella is more than ready to brave the cold and earn a spot in the Rams’ lineup this fall.
As a standout student-athlete, Ella received interest from several academically-impressive schools who were vying to get her on their roster. However, while she valued the educational aspect of committing to a program, having played at the most elite level throughout her career, Ella was committed to continue that legacy in college.
“Every athletes recruitment process is a little different,” shared her coach, Charlie Esparza, when asked about Ella’s journey. “Finding the right fit for this particular athlete took some time. Her academics are top-tier, so she took visits to schools that offered elite educations, but she wanted to play at an elite level as well.”
With several offers on the table, it ultimately came down to finding a program where she could play a high caliber of softball, receive a great education, and also be an asset in growing a program.
She found all three at the University of Rhode Island.
Amidst an extremely competitive summer season with the Strykers, playing at top showcases across the nation, Ella announced her commitment on July 17th via Twitter:
“I am beyond blessed and humbled to announce that I have been given the opportunity to further my academic and athletic career playing D1 softball at the University of Rhode Island. Words cannot describe how grateful I am for my family and friends for making this possible.”

While in Colorado this summer, Ella was able to attend a camp held by the program and used the opportunity to receive and implement feedback from her future coaching staff. The Strykers finished 2nd at the Sparkler tournament, an impressive feat given the multitude of talented competition.
Ella will graduate from Fleming Island High School in the spring and make the move up North in the Fall of 2024 to don the Rhode Island uniform.
