I Committed: Future Nicholls State Colonel Ally Mooneyham

Ally Mooneyham will join the Nicholls State Colonels on the field in the fall of next year.

Resilient and hardworking with an added bonus of natural talent, Ally Mooneyham has earned a spot on the roster at Nicholls State University and will be competing at the next level.

The middle-infielder and outfielder for the Bombers Gold—Mooneyham committed on July 2nd this summer after having the opportunity to visit campus.

“I got to meet the players and felt very comfortable around everyone,” Ally recalled of her trip to the Thibodaux, Louisiana university. “I didn’t feel nervous at all on my visit—the girls and coaches really helped with that. Everything stood out to me, and I loved it all.”

Besides her rave review of the campus and its program, an added bonus is that Ally has family nearby in Monroe that will undoubtedly be cheering her on at home games.

Reflecting on her recruiting journey, she attributes her success on the field to support from teammates and coaches, especially Joey Melton, who sadly passed away in 2021.

“Coach Joey Melton taught me the game and all the mental things that go into it. He always supported me and reminded me that he loved me if I ever made a mistake. He taught me that it’s okay to mess up, I just have to get right back up. He also taught me to trust the process,” Ally shared. “I wish he could be here to see me go to college, but I know he is proud of me, and I give a bunch of credit to him.”

Ally continues to honor Melton’s memory through her excellence on and off the field.

Her father, Rob Mooneyham, took over the team after Melton’s passing. Commenting on the special opportunity to coach his daughter, he said,

“She’s one of those kids that just doesn’t know how good she is. She never shies away from an opportunity to get better and it hasn’t affected her that I’m a little harder on her than I am on the other players. She gets it.”

Ally will take her official visit to Nicholls State this October and is extremely excited to get to know her future teammates and coaches on a deeper level.

As she finishes up her final high school and club seasons, Ally’s goals are to beat records at Crosby High School—records that she herself has already set in previous seasons.

“This commitment really changes my mentality by knowing I need to keep working hard for myself and my team,” Ally writes. “I want people to know that I won’t start giving less effort for my last year just because I am committed.”
