If the name Megan Schumacher sounds familiar, it’s because the talented senior pitcher from New York who signed with the Univ. of Missouri last fall has been on our site numerous times.
For example: yesterday, you saw Megan and her mom in our Mother’s Day Tribute; all throughout this spring you’ve seen her in our National Player of the Week write-ups; she made the 2019 Extra Elite 100; the senior is on the PGF All-American Game watchlist and the pitcher has also blogged for us in articles like Pre-Signing Preview: New York Pitcher Megan Schumacher On Her SEC School Choice… “It Felt Like Home”.
There’s no doubt that Megan is one of the top pitchers in the senior class: she throws in the mid-to-high 60’s, plays for one of the top club programs in the country—the Birmingham Thunderbolts 18U Premier team led by coaches Richard Shea, Rocky Thompson and Katelyn Boyd.

This year as a pitcher/first baseman for John Jay High School in East Fishkill, New York, Megan is 10-2 in the circle with 135 K’s and a 0.50 ERA with six shutouts, two no-hitters—including one last week over big rival Ketcham High where she had 18 strikeouts—and is also hitting .315.
In the two losses the future Mizzou pitcher only gave up one earned run in each game and, impressively, in her high school career she’s only had a total of five losses.
Yea, she’s pretty good on the field… and as a writer, too, which is why we’ve asked her to share her thoughts on her softball journey.
Today, Megan talks about her early days between the lines an Inside Pitch we know you’ll enjoy…

As my senior day with John Jay High School softball approaches this Thursday—“looms” is probably a more accurate word because as much as I’m looking forward to playing in the SEC at Mizzou and going to college I’m sad because I’m going to miss my days at Jay—I’ve been thinking back to how I got started in this wonderful sport which has brought me so many incredible life experiences.
My parents put me in the East Fishkill town rec softball program when I was 6 and unknowingly introduced me to the sport that helped shaped me into the outgoing, social and determined person I have become.
Who knew it would lead this New York girl to Alabama to play with the Birmingham Thunderbolts and to the University of Missouri for college where I’m headed in a few months!
