RENO, Nev. – Marina Demore has been named the Nevada softball interim head coach, announced Director of Athletics Stephanie Rempe.

Demore has served as Nevada’s assistant coach for the last two seasons. She succeeds Linda Garza, who announced she would be stepping down from her head coach role in August. Under the helm of Garza, Demore assisted the team to a 31-19 record, the program’s most wins since the Pack won 32 games in 2016. With nearly the entire roster set to return next season, the Pack is poised to be a top contender in the Mountain West for the 2024 season.

“Nevada Softball is on a solid foundation and in a prime position to take the next step forward in 2024,” said Rempe. “As a key member in building the program to this point, Marina Demore will serve as the interim head coach for the upcoming season. Marina’s and Nathan Ohta‘s trust and rapport with our student-athletes, along with her intricate knowledge of the returning talent and abilities of our current roster, will keep the program’s upward trajectory on pace.”

“I would like to thank Stephanie, Casey, and President Sandoval for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to lead this team,” said Demore. “We have an extremely talented group this year and I am very excited for this program and our future. I’m super excited that Coach Ohta will be staying on to continue leading our offense and to the rest of our support staff on campus. We all make a great team, and our goal remains unchanged: to win a Mountain West championship and to represent this community and our university at the highest level on and off the field. Go Pack!”

Prior to Nevada, Demore spent a season at Northern Kentucky as pitching coach. Demore also served as a graduate student manager at Fresno State from 2018-2020, where she focused on day-to-day softball operations, game and practice analytics, served as the pre and post-game video manager, and assisted with facility and game management.

Prior to Fresno State, Demore worked as a volunteer coach under Garza at UC Riverside in 2016, and was an assistant coach at Loyola University in 2015.

A former softball student-athlete at Oregon State, Demore helped her team to back-to-back NCAA Regionals in 2012 and 2013. As a member of Team Canada, Demore participated in the 2013 Pan American Games.

Demore earned her bachelor’s degree from Oregon State in biology in 2014 and a master’s degree in kinesiology from Fresno State.
