It’s full-blown prom season and we continue our look at talented players who mixed a softball theme into their school’s prom!
Today we go to Basic High of Henderson, Nevada to focus on a trio of fastpitch players who put their bat, ball and glove into play to accentuate their classy prom style.
On April 5, three starters for the Wolves attended their school prom which was held at the Mob Museum in Las Vegas with the theme “Masquerade Ball:”
- Shelby Basso is the team’s starting pitcher and leads the state of Nevada in home runs; the junior is committed to Furman University.
- Mikiayla “Miki” Berg, is a senior and the starting third baseman and is second in the state; she’s committed to Waldorph University.
- Angie Santi is the Wolves’ starting catcher and is committed to Santa Barbara City College.
Heading into this week, Basic is ranked 6th in Nevada and has two more games before starting the state playoffs. The team, which was the 2018 Regional champs, currently has a 9-1 league record.
Known for its power-hitting, Basic has 40 home runs already behind Shelby’s 10 and Miki’s nine— they were both 1st Team All-State last year and Shelby was named as the Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore.
It was also the first time the high school made it to state in its 75-year school history.
No matter what happens in the upcoming weeks in the Nevada state high school playoffs, however, the three players always have their 2019 prom as a time when they dressed to the nines!
