Jenna Lord, a 2021 catcher/shortstop who was 1st Team All-State at Sunlake (Land O’Lakes, Florida) High last spring with a .542 batting average and a state-tying 13 home runs, had a lot of BIG things happen over the last several months:
- She committed to Alabama on September 29,
- moved from Florida to Trussville, Alabama in October and will be playing for Hewitt Trussville High, the state’s defending 7A State Champion,s
- switched club teams—from the Atlanta Vipers to the Tennessee Mojo 2021.
Quite the busy “off-season” for the standout who was in the Top 35 in the 2021 Extra Elite 100 last year and a good candidate to make this year’s list as well (starts Jan. 20, two weeks from Monday).
We last profiled Jenna on Oct. 2, right after her trip and verbal to Patrick Murphy and the Crimson Tide softball program—you can find that spotlight below—and we also caught up with Jenna yesterday to get the latest.
Here’s what she had to say!

How were your holidays? What did you do?
My holidays were great! I loved getting to spend time with my family in the new house. It was fun making new memories in our new area that will turn into new traditions in the upcoming years. My family went to the Trussville tree lighting ceremony and the Hewitt-Trussville softball team were the grand marshals in this year’s Christmas parade. My family and I relaxed during Christmas break which was the most special time for me during the holidays.
What is your #1 goal for 2020?
My #1 goal this year is to keep pushing myself to be better person whether that’s at home, on the field, in the classroom, or in my community I want to be the best version of myself. Also, I want to make someone smile every day, because I want to be part of the reason why someone has a good day!
How has the move to Alabama been? Are you homesick for Florida or excited for the new opportunities?
The move has been great and I have started to settle in more. I, of course, miss my friends in Florida but we keep in touch. I am so excited for these new opportunities of growth here in Alabama, especially with the high school softball season coming up!
How far are you from the Tide campus now?
With the move I am now an hour and fifteen minutes away from Alabama’s campus! So not too far!
What led to your joining the Mojo? Di you have ties to Brook Cherry’s team before?
My coaches and teammates at the Atlanta Vipers were great and I wish them all the best of luck! But my family and I had some personal decisions to make regarding my future and that led me to joining the Tennessee Mojo. I’ve known Brooks and I have been playing against him since I was 7 so I’ve seen how hard his girls work and I knew that would be a really great fit for me.
Did you know any of the players?
I knew of most of the girls but not many personally, but one of my teammates Aubrey Barnhart is also committed to Alabama so we officially met through the recruiting process which is so cool!
When will you practice with the Mojo team and how will that work for the year?
Unfortunately I can’t practice with Mojo until my high school season is completely over. We aren’t allowed to play travel ball or practice with our travel ball team until our season ends which is a state rule set by Alabama so I’ll be able to practice most likely when summer starts.
When does the high school season kick in and how good will you team be?
Our high school season starts really soon. I believe we can start practicing within the next few weeks, and our team should be very good as long as we play together. These girls won the state championship last year, so we know our potential and just have to keep working hard to reach our goal!
