CERVENY STAYS HOME
As one of the top outfielders in Nebraska, Sophie Cerveny saw herself leaving her home state to pursue her softball dreams in college. But one visit to the University of Nebraska Omaha changed the mind of the 2021 prospect from Hastings High, NE.
“Originally, I wanted to go far away somewhere, so I was kind of hesitant because it was kind of closer to home,” Cerveny, who plays for Nebraska Gold-Singleton, told the Lincoln Journal Star. “But when I got there, it felt like it’s own little town and it didn’t even feel like I was in Nebraska.”
Cerveny, a 5-tool player with the ability to bunt, slap or drive it over the fence, was an All-State selection after batting .494 with 44 hits, 37 runs scored and 17 RBIs for Hastings in the fall. Two weeks after her visit to Omaha in December, she committed to the Mavericks.
“I never really thought about going there until I went on a visit there,” Cerveny said. “Everything was just really nice and new there, and I know a bunch of the girls in the senior class now who are going there.
“I just thought it would be a fun team to be with.”
I am so excited to announce my commitment to the University of Nebraska Omaha! Thank you everyone who has helped me to get where I am today and to @OmahaSB for the opportunity! #EveryoneForOmaha #OmahaSB pic.twitter.com/ahEe6ybuKf

ANOTHER MIDWEST STANDOUT COMMITS
Anna Wischnowski got the perfect Christmas present this year: the chance to play college softball.
The 2021 P/UT player who plays for Gerry Quinn‘s Illinois Chill program, is from Wilmot, WI and according to Coach Quinn, does a lot of things well.
“Anna is a pitcher with good size, velocity and she is a strike thrower,” he began. “What made her an attractive recruit is that she is also more than a pitcher, she can hit and hit for power.”
“We expect her to be in the middle of the 16U lineup this year, hitting extra base hits and driving in runs. She has a good glove and strong overhand throw so she will be able to move around and play both corner positions when she is not pitching.”
I am beyond excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Northern Iowa! I would like to thank my family, coaches, and friends for your endless support and encouragement! Go Panthers!💜💛 @ILChillGold @UNISoftball @WilmotSBall pic.twitter.com/fTh0ONJEf3
