Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them?
I was looking for a new team because my previous team (Carolina Elite-Fusetti) was moving up to 18U. (Fury Premier 2023 coach) Heather (Cole) reached out to my mom and asked if I was looking for a new team and it was great timing. We talked to Heather over the phone and decided that playing with her was going to be a good fit for me and my family. I’m pretty hard on myself and having a coach like Heather has been really great for me. She’s our biggest cheerleader. This past fall, we had a pretty strong, but new team. I’m looking forward to our summer season. I believe we are going to be a team to watch.

Can you talk about your sophomore season at Farragut High and what you were able to accomplish?
During my sophomore season at Farragut I stepped into the leadoff position and played left field. It was really amazing to leadoff every game with a lineup of absolute studs for teammates. They pushed me every day to be better and we all constantly fed off of each other. Each game brought us closer together. These girls are my second family. We battled through one of the toughest districts in the state and that helped prepare us for our state tournament run. It took every one of us to make it as far as we did and I’m so proud to be a part of this team. My coach was a huge part as well. He prepared us every game and cares about every one of the girls like his own. He’s pretty good at hitting the griddy too.

The sophomore hit over .400 in both her travel ball (fall) and high school (spring) seasons.

Can you talk about the TSSAA Class 4A state tournament?
Being in the TSSAA Class 4A state tournament was a memorable experience, for sure. We were ready and we had one goal in mind: winning our last game. Only one team gets to say they did that and we did. We were the visiting team in all four games that we played, which meant that I got to set the tone for the game. I loved being the “party starter” for my team. I knew that if I got on base, that my teammates would find a way to bring me home. We had some experience under our belts from being the champions the previous year and I think that was a huge part of us keeping our composure this year. We had been here before and we knew what it would take. All of us were 100 percent into the game all the way through the last play.

Avery Flatford pitched all four games for us. I’m honored to say that I’ve played on the same team as her because she is incredible. You would never know that she has Cystic Fibrosis. What she does in the circle truly amazes me and inspires me every day. My hitting coach, Marc Weekly, came to support me during the tournament. I talk a lot of game strategy with him and while that’s always important, the words that really stuck with me were: “Enjoy the trip not just the destination.” And I really took that to heart and savored every moment of those games. Being a state champion is something few people get to experience and I’m thrilled to represent my town, my school and my community by doing it twice.
