BANDITS VS. BANDITS IN 18U OUTLAWS SUMMER INVITATIONAL FINALS

Megan Ward went 2 for 3 with a run and an RBI, Cheyenne Scott went 2 for 2 with two doubles and two runs scored, Lanya Bates went 1 for 2 with an RBI and Kiersen George went 1 for 1 with two RBIs to lift Beverly Bandits DeMarini 18U-Dorsey, #23 in Extra Elite Eighty 18U Club Rankings, to a 5-2 win over Beverly Bandits DeMarini 16U-Helbling, #4 in the Extra Elite Eighty 16U Club Rankings, in the 18U finals of the D1 Fastpitch Outlaws Summer Invitational on Sunday at Victory Sports Park in North Ridgeville, OH.

Allison Smith allowed three hits, one earned run and struck out six in four innings to record the victory for Bandits-Dorsey.

“As this team moved through pool play and into bracket play, their intensity as a team grew,” Bandits coach Rona Dorsey said. “They were excited to play against tough competition. Five games on Sunday provided opportunities for the entire line up to catch fire. This is the weekend they learned how to win and keep playing. The field of teams were excellent and challenging and our team did the little things right and the wins took care of themselves.”

Dorsey said Austy Miller was instrumental throughout the tournament. She went 1 for 2 with an RBI against PA Chaos’ Auburn-committed pitcher, she had two RBIs against Ohio Outlaws-Hoffner and went 1 for 1 with a run scored in the finals.

“Her best hitting came against our toughest games with Power 5 pitching,” Dorsey said of Miller.

Scott batted .421 (8 for 19) for the tournament and her “base running was explosive.” Bates hit .473 (9 for 19) for the weekend. Taylor Erschan had some critical hits and drove in six runs, including five on Sunday in bracket play.

Skipp Miller allowed three runs in 16 innings and Smith allowed three runs in 13 innings and got the wins over PA Chaos and Bandits-Helbling.

“Overall, there were moments over the weekend that brought the whole team to their feet,” Dorsey said. “Jane Kronenberger, who is fighting back from an ACL surgery, hit a three-run homer against MICH Elite, Kiersen George hit a two-RBI double in the championship game and Taylor and Austy hit back-to-back doubles during games. The top of the order did their job of getting on and moving around the bases and the bottom got on for the top. Kids came off the bench and performed. The lineup started working for each other and learned how to win. That was the best part of the weekend, watching the team come together and perform for each other!”
