Extra Inning Softball will start running the Extra Elite Eighty 14U Club Rankings on Monday, March 23, but for now let’s take a look at Kevin O’Donnell‘s team …

JERSEY INTENSITY NATIONAL-KOD

Team Name: 14U Intensity KOD National
Coach: Kevin O’Donnell
2019 summer record: 54-16

Returners:

  • Ryleigh Thomas (2023, P, throws 63 mph and as good as she is as a pitcher she can swing it. She will dominate. She is a pitbull on the field)
  • Steph Krasca (2023, 3B, a fierce competitor who was one of the batting leaders in the fall and doesn’t get out-worked. One of the great leaders on the team)
  • Makayla Brantley (2023, OF, switch-hitter and slapper won’t get out-worked. Great utility can play 2B and pitch as well)
Stefania Abruscato is is a top prospect in the 2023 class and is SEC-bound.

Newcomers:

  • Layna Gerhard (2024, P, brings 63 mph with a great curve, change and rise. She will be nasty on the mound)
  • Sarah Trosin (2023, P, throws 61 mph-plus with a great down pitch and change-up. Curve will produce a lot of groundballs)
  • Julianna Raymond (2023, P, 61-plus mph with a drop curve, change-up and picks her spots and corners)
  • Kylie Flaherty (2023, 1B, power-hitting first baseman with great exit velocity)
  • Stephani Abruscato (2023, C/OF, the Mizzou-commit is a a tremendous five-tool player. She can do it all)
  • Halie Furkas (2023, C/3B/OF, a lefty hitter who also slaps)
  • Ava Hawley (2024, OF, packs a lot of punch and brings high energy and comes to compete)
  • Kiara Bellido (2024, C/3B, brings a lot of power and a 1.72 pop time)

What will it take for your team to be successful this year?
Being able to execute and move runners. Our pitching staff is as good or better than any in the country. It will be our ability to play great defense and plate some runners.

Who is your No. 1 pitcher and can you describe her skills? Who are the other pitchers on your staff and can you describe their skills?
I don’t think we have a No. 1. We have a No. 1 staff. Everyone brings something different to the table. So it’s fun to see how effective they are. They compete and perform and all push each other.

Can you describe your offense and what some of the strengths are?
I think we have great balance. Combination of speed and power. We run the bases very well. We also have a lot of power in the lineup. The girls are relentless. There is not an easy out in the lineup.
