TLI came across this Tweet last week and had to catch up with the Brumley family to get some more background and information.
Kristen Brumley was a standout pitcher at Linn Co R-1 High in northern Missouri where she graduated in 1987. She went on to play college softball at North Central Missouri for two years and she played two more years at University of Central Missouri. She was inducted into the NCM Hall of Fame in 2015.
“My mom is the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” said Bailey Brumley, a 2022 P for the KC Zephyrs. “Growing up, my mom took care of me and started teaching me how to pitch when I was 6 (years old). She has taught me everything I know about softball. She has been coaching me since I was 4 years old. She is more than a mom to me, she’s my best friend and the strongest woman I’ve ever met. She never gives up on me and always pushes me to do my best. I couldn’t ask for a better mother and coach all in one.”
Kristen enjoyed teaching her daughter the art of pitching.
“When she was young, I worked with her Kristen said. “When she turned 12, I could no longer do both. I was afraid I might be missing my teeth, trying to watch her motion and catch her at the same time.”
Bailey has already won two state championships at Blue Springs South High, MO, which was something her mom never achieved during her high school years.
“This by far is the greatest thing as a parent to see your child pick something up that gave me so much joy as a kid,” Kristen said. “She has had a lot of success herself, and it’s great seeing her go through her success. She was a two-time state champion as a freshman and sophomore. She didn’t pitch but played first base. That is the one thing my HS teams could never manage to do. Experiencing her have that kind of success was the best feeling ever.”
