Extra Inning Softball announced on Monday that the next class to be profiled in the Extra Elite 100 series will be the current high school freshmen, the Class of 2025.
Those updated rankings will begin on May 23, 2022 with the deadline to nominate players set at May 15th.
As we head to the unveiling of the updated ratings, we will profile potential candidates who could make the Top 100… today, we spotlight So Cal standout outfielder Jillian Torres who plays in the OC Batbuster program and was in the Top 150 in last Spring’s 2025 rankings.
Here are some notes about Jillian that makes her one to watch as she continues her high school and club careers… and probably beyond!

Team Mexico 16U in this Summer’s Triple Crown Sports International Challenge
Jillian was recently chosen to be on Team Mexico 16U which will be participating in the TCS International Challenge in Colorado the weekend of June 24, 2022.
She was one of 23 players chosen to be on the team. With over 600 players vying for a position, this was quite an accomplishment!

Does What It Takes to Win:
Longtime club coach Jay McGowan, whose daughter Terra McGowan is currently the starting catcher for the Oregon Ducks, was Jillian’s head coach from September 2020 through August 2021 when she played for him on the OC Batbusters – McGowan says of his former player:
“Jillian is a great team player who will do what it takes to help her team win including dropping down a sacrifice bunt or hitting to the right side to advance a runner.

Hits for Power & High Average Against Top Competition
Jillian had a very good 2021 club season in the batter’s box as she finished with 10 home runs and had a batting average of .393 in 285 at-bats while her on-base percentage was .450.

Doesn’t Strike Out Much
“Jillian is a selective hitter who is not afraid to be down in the count,” says Coach McGowan. “Her QAB percentage is around 60 percent and Jillian is a very good contact hitter who only struck out 23 times in all of 2021.

Strong H.S. Competition
Jillian’s high school, Santa Margarita Catholic High School (SMCHS), participates in the Trinity League in Southern California which is known to be one of the toughest leagues in the country as it includes schools such at Mater Dei and Orange Lutheran.
She has been hitting over .400 thus far in league play and is the starting center fielder for the Eagles.

Impressive in the Grass
Jillian has a powerful arm and does a great job at leading the outfield per Coach McGowan who adds: “She has above average speed and great quickness as well as having a very good sense for reading balls off the bat which allows her to get good jumps on balls hit in the gaps.”

Shined at Select 30
In 2021, Jillian was invited to the USSSA Select 30 camp in Viera, Florida. She not only exceeded the average score in every competitive drill, but she did exceptionally well in the competitive games and ultimately was chosen as a Select 30 All American representing the Class of 2025.
Additionally, Jillian’s team won the championship game, in which she went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Big-Time on the Biggest Stages
In her final tournament in December of 2020, Jillian helped OC Batbusters – McGowan win the Arizona Christmas Classic. In that tournament, she was 8-for-16 with three triples and also had nine RBIs and scored eight runs.
Last Summer, Jillian helped lead OC Batbusters – McGowan to an 11th place finish at the Alliance Championships in Viera, Florida and a 13th place at the PGF Nationals in Southern California.

College Coaches Know of Her!
Playing for the high-profile and successful Batbusters organization, Jillian has caught the eye of many top college programs who have seen her in person as the Batbusters – Lara/Portesi 16U team competed in many top tournaments and showcases last Fall including:

- TCS Turkey Bash
- OC Fall Showcase
- Surf City Las Vegas
- TCS Pre-Thanksgiving Cup
- TCS Don Battles On Showcase
As a 2025 future high school graduate, per NCAA D1 rules she cannot be contacted directly by any coaches. However, she has been shown interest by a few schools through her travel ball coaches.
Jillian has been to several elite camps including UCLA, UCSB, USD, Florida, ASU and others.

Strong Family of Athletes
Jillian’s father played baseball at UC Santa Barbara and three of Jillian’s cousins all received full D1 scholarships:
- Her oldest cousin, Ethan Torres played football at Bucknell University and UNC- Charlotte.
- Her cousin Sidney Torres is a redshirt freshman softball player at George Washington University
- Her younger sister, Reese Torres, is a high chool senior and has committed to George Washington as well for softball.
