Leading the way – In an era where youth softball can too easily become defined by early rankings, pressure, and short-term results, the Colorado Angels 12U – Odell are proving that the most powerful programs are built differently.

⬇️Keep listening below to hear how the Colorado Angels 12U – Odell are redefining youth softball from the inside out.
Based in Aurora, Colorado, and competing under the respected Colorado Angels organization, this 12U group has quietly become a case study in what intentional coaching, player-first development, and strong female leadership can look like at the youth level.
Led by a coach who understands both the game and the responsibility that comes with shaping young athletes, the Angels are creating something sustainable—on the field and beyond it.
At the center of the program is a coach with four years of experience in the Angels organization and a clear sense of purpose. Coach Odell shared the following insights with Extra Inning Softball.
“I’ve been coaching softball for four years with the Angels, and what inspired me was the opportunity to help young athletes grow not just as players, but as confident, resilient young women. I’ve always loved the sport of softball — it shaped so much of who I am today. The lessons I learned as a player about teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and believing in myself are the same lessons I try to pass on to my girls.”

That philosophy is not theoretical—it shows up daily in how the team trains, communicates, and competes. It also shows up in representation, something this coach is intentional about. Odell continued:
“It’s also important to me to show up as a female coach in a sport where women are still underrepresented on the coaching side. I want these girls to see strong female leadership, to know that their voices matter, and to feel empowered both on and off the field.”

Connection and Accountability
The Angels’ culture didn’t form overnight. Many of the athletes on this roster have played together for four years, creating a level of trust and chemistry that can’t be manufactured. That long-standing connection is something Coach Odell is quick to point out when describing what truly defines this group.
“I would describe our team culture as competitive, supportive, and rooted in genuine connection. Many of these girls have played together for the past four years, and that history shows in the way they communicate, trust each other, and genuinely enjoy being together.”
Accountability and effort are non-negotiables, but so is joy. Odell continued:
“We’ve built a culture where effort is valued, mistakes are treated as learning moments, and every player feels seen and supported. It’s a group that works hard, and genuinely love playing this game together — and that balance is what makes our team so special.”
This balance is increasingly rare—and increasingly valuable—in today’s youth softball landscape.

Angels: Development Over Trophies
What separates the Colorado Angels 12U Odell from many programs is their long-term mindset. Wins matter, but they are not the primary metric.
“What makes the Angels program unique in today’s softball landscape is that we don’t measure success solely by wins and losses — our focus is truly on development.”
That development is intentional and layered.
“We prioritize teaching the game the right way, giving them opportunities to stretch themselves, and helping them understand not just what to do, but why they’re doing it.”
It’s a philosophy that prepares athletes not just for the next age group—but for the next stage of life.

Results That Reflect the Process
The results are beginning to catch up to the process. This fall, the Angels finished 22–9, placed 4th in the 12U Fall Elite Bracket, and earned runner-up honors at the BYBSA Halloween Tournament.
“But what impressed me most wasn’t just the record. It was the way the girls competed, supported one another, and continued to grow every single weekend.”
Looking ahead, the Angels will play up at the 14U level this Spring, a deliberate decision designed to challenge the athletes and accelerate development.
“They’ve shown they can hold their own against top competition, and now it’s about pushing them to grow, adapt, and elevate their game even more.”
In a youth softball landscape often dominated by early labels and unrealistic timelines, the Colorado Angels 12U Odell are offering something different—and arguably more important. They are teaching athletes who they are, how to respond to adversity, and why confidence matters long after the final out.
For parents, coaches, and organizations paying attention, this program represents what youth softball can look like when development leads and pressure follows.

Setting the Standard
On behalf of Extra Inning Softball, we congratulate the Colorado Angels 12U Odell on their continued growth and success. This program reflects what’s possible when development, leadership, and culture lead the way. We look forward to following their journey and the impact they will continue to make on the game.
