EXTRA INNING SOFTBALL

MERIDIAN, IDAHO — In a major development for the Northwest softball community, Crossfire Fastpitch has officially rebranded as Idaho Batbusters, launching a new chapter backed by one of the nation’s premier club softball organizations.

Founded in 2011 by John Falkner, the Crossfire Fastpitch Fore Organization began with a single team and quickly grew into a respected force in the region. After Falkner’s departure in 2018, leadership transitioned to David Dwyer, under whom the program continued to expand its reach and impact.

Crossfire Fastpitch will now officially operate as Idaho Batbusters, led by David Dwyer, and guided by nationally renowned softball leader, Mike Stith, president of the Batbusters organization. Stith attended today’s Idaho Batbusters tryouts at Owyhee High School to meet with families and outline the program’s vision for the future.

The impact of the merger is already being felt across the local softball landscape, with coaches and leaders praising the alignment as a major step forward for the region. One of those voices is John Carpenter, head coach at Owyhee High School, who spoke to the significance of this new chapter:

“The legacy of Idaho’s Crossfire Fastpitch partnering with the history of the Batbuster organization will bring unlimited resource and opportunity to a great softball community,” said John Carpenter, head coach at Owyhee High School.

Carpenter continued, “Led by Idaho coaches and supported by Mike Stith and the Batbusters, the future of Idaho softball is on a dramatic trajectory and the kids in Idaho will be the beneficiaries of this enhanced community. Dave Dwyer’s dream for Idaho taken to the next level with Mike Stith’s wisdom and support.”

Dwyer, who has overseen 37 college placements since 2019—17 Division I, 6 Division II, 12 NAIA, and 2 JUCO—called the transition both personal and profound. Dwyer told Extra Inning Softball.

“Personally, seeing Crossfire evolve into Idaho Batbusters feels like the culmination of everything we’ve been building toward.” He continued, “We’ve spent years developing a culture of excellence here in Idaho, and our track record speaks for itself—37 college placements since 2019.

But I always knew we could do more for our athletes. This transition to Batbusters represents that ‘more.’ It’s validation that what we’ve built here is championship-caliber, and now we have the platform to prove it on a national stage.”

Stith’s commitment to expanding the Batbusters Legacy beyond California is both strategic and deeply personal. Speaking to Extra Inning Softball, Stith shared his perspective on the journey ahead and what this move means for the athletes in his new home state.

“I have been more than blessed to have been able to work with some incredible young women in my career and it has opened many doors for me—from coaching All-Americans to winning a championship at the professional level—it has truly been an incredible ride. As my work on the field shifts to a different role, I have grown to love my new home in Idaho and want to do what I can for the athletes in the valley and see if we can give them a new platform to learn and grow in our sport.

All of the people my wife and I have met in Idaho have been incredible, so I felt there is no better way to give back to the sport than to grow the Orange County Batbusters to a whole new group of athletes and families here in our new home.”

“I’m honored to be here and work with Dave Dwyer and all of the Crossfire coaches and athletes and look forward to opening more doors for all of the athletes in Idaho. I will still run my team in Orange County and I will commute for a while here as we establish the next group of leaders in California and see who will step up and lead our great program. There are some great people coaching with me in California and the new Batbusters Legacy program will produce more history as the Batbusters move into an exciting future,” said Mike Stith, President of Batbusters.”

With the Batbusters name comes access to national tournament schedules such as Alliance Fastpitch, Triple Crown, Team NJ, NWFL, and Alliance Super Cup, alongside a proven training system known for producing NCAA standouts. For Dwyer, the transition represents both a personal milestone and a turning point for what’s possible in Idaho softball.

“As for long-term development and college opportunities, this merger is a game-changer for Idaho softball,” Dwyer added. “Before, we were a well-respected regional/national program. Now, we’re part of a network that college coaches actively scout and recruit from. When a coach sees ‘Batbusters’ on a uniform, they know that player has been developed using proven methods and has competed at the highest levels.

“Mike Stith’s direct involvement means our athletes will have access to the same training philosophies and exposure opportunities that have produced countless All-Americans and college standouts. We’re not just giving our players a pathway to college softball anymore—we’re giving them a highway.”

The rebrand to Idaho Batbusters represents more than just a name change—it’s a bold declaration of intent. With deep Idaho roots, a proven record of college placement, and the full support of Mike Stith and the nationally recognized Batbusters network, this program is now positioned to offer athletes the best of both worlds: local leadership they trust and national resources they need to succeed.

As the tryouts signal the beginning of a new chapter, one thing is clear—Idaho Batbusters isn’t just building teams; they’re building a legacy. And for families, athletes, and coaches across the state, the road to college softball just got wider, faster, and more powerful than ever before
