Club News: A Merger within a Merger… How a Powerful Mojo/Impact Combined 14U Team Integrated into the Fast-Rising Virginia Unity Organization

The Virginia Unity – Johnson/Ross team that won PGF 14U Premier Nationals in August has moved up to 16U, giving room for a new 14U team to take its place—and that’s what happened as a recently-merged team will now wear the Unity colors.

Virginia Unity founder Josh Johnson has seen unparalleled success recently at the 14U level with his “super-charged” 2024 Johnson/Ross team that won PGF Nationals this Summer.

Making the move to 16U now leaves a void for Unity to not only fill, but also carry on the winning tradition.

Coach Johnson feels he has done that by recruiting some of the best talent that Florida has to offer… and that’s not just at the player level.

“It was very flattering to see the overwhelming amount of interest in teams looking to join our organization after our recent success on the National stage,” Johnson began.

“But once I heard about the team merger between Dean Spinogatti (Tennessee Mojo 07- Spinogatti) and Coty Meadows (Florida Impact 07- Meadows), I knew I had to reach out to them.”

“We played both teams last season and they were definitely the top 07 teams we faced all year. Both had great players, but I was more impressed at how well each team was coached.”

Just as Virginia Unity got stronger with a summer merger involving a powerful Mojo team, the integration of Spinogatti and Meadow’s Mojo/Florida Impact team into the Unity program looks to make for a powerhouse new team.

Unity 14U – Meadows/Spinogatti will be the new team name, but the coaches know they will have big shoes to fill if they want to carry the torch that the 2024 team left for them.

Spinogatti’s Mojo team had a Spring/Summer record of 62-22 playing numerous 16U and high school division tournaments and finished 5th at the 14U USA Nationals.

Meadow’s Impact team had a nearly identical Spring/Summer record of 62-21 with notable wins against Beverly Bandits- Trackwell, EC Bullets- Holcombe, Impact Gold GA, Mojo Abernathy, Vipers-Tamborra, Impact-Sullivan, Unity-Johnson and Athletics Mercado/Bonola.

“Coty and I had been kicking around this idea for a while now but we had to wait until ultimately the timing was right,” Spinogatti explains. “Some of the best players in the country are right here in Central Florida but there are so many teams that the talent gets spread out so thin.”

“We both bring a lot to the table and our coaching styles complement each other really well but it’s our passion, dedication and energy for the game that will set this program apart from others.”

When the merger and tryouts were posted, the response was overwhelming with calls coming from players all over the southern US. They decided to keep an “all Central Florida” roster since the talent pool was so strong already.

Some of the more notable players on the roster include:

Makenna Meadows

* Nevaeh Williams, who was ranked #13 overall in the 2026 Extra Elite 100 and a Top 5 pitcher. Her coach claims “She’s made huge strides since then.” Williams has added more speed (hitting 67 mph on the radar) and has added a nasty backdoor cutter along with a flip-change. She was lights out at 14U USA Nationals playing against girls two years older than her.

* Makenna Meadows, the team leader for Impact-Meadows in numerous offensive and pitching categories. “On the mound, she is as focused and determined as they come,” says Spinogatti.  She tops out in the low 60’s with great command and a tight spin. At the plate, she is a solid contact hitter who has home run power but also possesses good speed on the bases. *

* Danika Spinogatti, the coach’s daughter who was the mainstay behind the dish for her Mojo 07 team. She was ranked as the #17 catcher and #37 overall player in the 2025 Extra Elite 100 thanks to a cannon for an arm and a smooth, lefty swing at the plate. The 5-foot-9 powerhouse is already garnering interest from D1 schools.

* Margaret Jenkins, a true 5-tool player who is about to break out on the national scene. A college scout recently said she reminded him of Oddici Alexander at that age. She commands the game in the circle, hits with power to all fields, has silky smooth glove work and transition with blazing speed on the bases.

Kiersten Gainey

* Leila Susaia, who is coming off a great summer where she hit .405 with 32 RBIs and only two strikeouts. She is a lockdown corner who can also patrol the outfield with the best of them. “She is a true team leader on the field and possesses a super high softball IQ,” adds Spinogatti. Leila was ranked as the #73 player in the country.

* Kirsten Gainey, who gives Unity – Meadows/Spinogatti another 5-tool athlete with her game-changing abilities. “She has home run power at the plate and patrols the infield and outfield with a reckless abandon,” continues her new coach. “She has great range, fast hands and quick feet.

* Abbie Meadows, perhaps the smallest one in the bunch but “she plays with the biggest heart!” according to Spinogatti. “She is the other 2008 on the team (along with Nevaeh) but has grown exponentially on the field.” A converted slapper who continues to master her craft, Abbie is super quick out of the box and has the ability to place the ball to all fields. In the outfield she covers a ton of ground and has a very strong arm. “Expect big things out of her this year,” concludes her new coach, who could be speaking for the entire team as well.
