This fall is the 10th anniversary of the Diamond 9 Sun Classic Showcase, a youth travel fast pitch softball event that “exposes the talent and skill of young aspiring athletes to all levels of collegiate softball coaches,” according to event creator and producer Kevin O’Donnell.
“The Sun Classic Showcase was born from the idea that all athletes should have the opportunity to dream big and pursue their goal of playing at the collegiate level,” he adds.
D9 Sun Classic is a bi-annual event that attracts teams/athletes and their families from all over the country, from Rhode Island to Texas, California, Oregon and everywhere in between.
The showcase event has called ESPN Wide World of Sports it’s home for a decade but has grown exponentially to include several off-site complexes in the surrounding Orlando area.
The softball talent being showcased draws the attention of over 350 college coaches from all over the country who come to watch for three days of competition.
“Ultimately,” O’Connell, who also runs the Jersey Intensity club program, says, “this event serves as a platform for each athlete to put their practice in to play and hopefully find the right fit for their academic and athletic pursuits.”
