Wednesday was the first day of bracket play for the 14U, 12U and 10U age divisions at the 2022 Premier Girls Fastpitch (PGF) Nationals and, right off the bat, there were some impressive pitching shutouts and some explosive offensive displays.
Take 14U Premier, for example… in what many feel is a loaded Bracket A, there were nine shutouts in the 22 games played and six of the games saw the potent bats of teams account for 10 or more runs.
And at 12U Premier in Bracket A, there were 20 games played on Wednesday and 12 of them saw the losing teams kept to one or no runs.
That’s impressive pitching and it sets up some good battles on Thursday in the Winner’s Brackets.
Here are some thoughts after watching games morning and night at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex where the 14U Premier teams battled on Fields 1-8…
* One game that will be fun to watch on Thursday at 14U Premier is two powers from the East as Virginia Unity – Meadows/Spinogatti will take on the Georgia Impact – Taylor team.
How deep is the Unity team?
It’s loaded with talent and experience after playing in top 2022 summer events including PGF Show Me the Money in Florida, Top Club Nationals in Oklahoma, Atlanta Legacy in Georgia and USA Nationals in Florida prior to this week.

And between the 2025 and 2026 classes, the Unity has 11 players ranked in the Extra Elite 100 rankings including Kirsten Gainey, the power-hitting third baseman who had a home run and RBI single in the team’s 12-2 opening day bracket play win over LLG in the 7:15 pm time slot.
But don’t think Kip Taylor’s Georgia Impact team will be a pushover… nope, this squad is loaded, too, and impressed after a 7-5 win over a good Power Surge – Worley team.
Pitcher/first baseman Addie Rackley went 5.2 innings in the win and gave up just three hits with one run while striking out six.
Supporting her offensively were P/1B Jo Young who had three RBIs on two hits and centerfielder Shayla Bahr who had two hits and scored a pair of runs herself.
* Mojo – Nelson also impressed as Kristin Nelson’s team won its 14U Premier B bracket game 7-1 in the opening round of bracket play.
Pitcher Anna Brewer went the distance as she struck out seven and gave up just the one earned run in the last game of the day (7:15 pm) time slot.
