Events News: Arizona Storm National-Mathis Captures So Cal A’s Invitational Title (June 19, 2022)

Arizona Storm National-Mathis, #12 in the Extra Elite Eighty 18U Club Rankings, concluded an unbeaten week with a 3-1 victory over #10 Bombers Gold-Lewis in the 18U championship game of the So Cal A’s Invitational on Sunday at Harvard Park in Irvine, CA.

LSU-committed 2023 1B/OF Savanna Bedell led off the top of the second with a homer to right field to give Bombers-Lewis an early 1-0 lead. Bedell ended up going 3 for 3.

Arizona State-bound C/3B Riley Valentine led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run to left field to tie it, 1-1. LSU-committed 2023 2B/SS Sierra Daniel doubled and eventually scored from third on Charleston Southern-bound C/3B Harper Schoeneweis’ sacrifice fly to left field, giving Storm-Mathis a 2-1 lead.

Grand Canyon-committed 2023 SS/CF Savannah Groshong-Kirk singled and scored on Texas-bound SS/OF Viviana Martinez’s single for a 3-1 Storm-Mathis advantage in the bottom of the fifth.

Alabama-committed 2023 P/1B Jocelyn Briski allowed five hits, one run, one walk and struck out seven in six innings to record the victory got Storm-Mathis.

2024 3B/OF Lauren Putz went 2 for 2 with two runs and twp RBIs and 2024 2B/SS Kate Vance went 2 for 2 with a homer to lead Storm-Mathis past Sorcerer-Gabales/Rodriguez, 8-3, in the semifinals.

Bombers-Lewis roughed up AASA-Merrida, 15-1, in the other semifinal.

Mathis-Storm went 8-0 for the tournament, beating Jersey Intensity-KOD, 9-1, Cal Nuggets-Woods, 3-0, Sorcerer-Gabales/Rodriguez, 8-3, and Bombers-Lewis, 3-1, in bracket play on Sunday.

Bombers-Lewis went 6-1-1 for the tournament, beating Firecrackers-TJ, 8-0, Lady Magic-Munoz, 4-1, AASA-Merrida, 15-1, and losing to Storm-Mathis, 3-1, in bracket play on Sunday.
