Extra Inning Softball National High School Players of the Week for 2023

The fall high school softball season officially ended for 2023 with state champions being crowned in Oklahoma, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri and Georgia.

Throughout the fall, Extra Inning Softball honored and recognized the outstanding performances of players with a selection of a National High School Player of the Week.

All told Extra Inning Softball selected eight players as the National HIgh School Player of the Week. The first selection was Delanie Roeder of Beatrice High School in Nebraska and the final choice was Jenna Edwards of Carrollton High School in Missouri.

Extra Inning Softball National High School Players of the Week

Delanie Roeder, Beatrice High School, Beatrice, Neb. (September 11, 2023)

How She Earned the Honor: Our first selection for National High School Player of the Week is Delanie Roeder. Roeder plays for Beatrice High School in Beatrice, Neb. In two games last week Roeder led Beatrice to a pair of victories by going 7-for-8 at the plate with three home runs, nine RBIs and 18 total bases. In a 10-0 victory over Malcolm, Roeder went 3-for-3 with a single, double and a home run. She tallied three RBIs, scored three runs and stole two bases. In a 15-13 victory over Seward, Roeder was 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs and six runs driven in. She also had a single and a double in the slugfest. For the season she is batting .520 and boasts a slugging percentage of 1.110.

Tymber Harris, Vidalia High School, Vidalia, Ga. (September 20, 2023)

How She Earned the Honor: After an outstanding week in the circle and at the plate, Tymber Harris has been selected as the Extra Inning Softball National High School Player of the Week. Harris plays for Vidalia High School in Vidalia, Ga. In two games last week, Harris posted a 2-0 record with a 0.50 earned run average and 27 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched. She also added two home runs at the plate. In an 8-0 victory over Tattnall County,  Harris tossed a no-hitter and struck out 14 batters while also delivering a home run. In an 8-6 win over Heard County that took eight innings, Harris allowed just one earned run and struck out 13 to pick up the victory. She also blasted a two-run homer to help her own cause.

Macie Hunolt, Troy Buchanan High School, Troy, Mo. (September 27, 2023)

How She Earned the Honor: After an outstanding week in the circle, Macie Hunolt has been selected as the Extra Inning Softball National High School Player of the Week. Harris plays for Troy Buchanan High School in Troy, Mo. In three games last week at the September Slam Tournament in Liberty, Mo., Hunolt recorded a 0.52 earned run average over 27 innings pitched with 41 strikeouts. After the Trojans lost to Kearney 4-3 to open tournament play, they bounced back behind the pitching of Hunolt. Troy Buchanan defeated Grain Valley 2-0 as Hunolt allowed only two hits and struck out 12 batters. She followed up that performance by blanking Owasso 1-0 allowing only a single hit while notching 12 strikeouts.

Reese Hickey, Mount Vernon School, Sandy Spring, Ga. (October 4, 2023)

How She Earned the Honor: After an outstanding week in the circle and at the plate, Reese Hickey has been selected as the Extra Inning Softball National High School Player of the Week. Hickey plays for the Mount Vernon School in Sandy Springs, Ga. In four games last week, Hickey did not allow a run over 20 innings pitched and notched 29 strikeouts. Returning from an injury, Hickey pitched 6.0 innings in two games and did not permit a run in a pair of Mustang victories. She closed the week with two outstanding efforts in the circle. Mount Vernon defeated Chamblee 1-0 as Hickey went 7.0 innings and struck out six in a two-hit shutout. She followed that by tossing another shutout as the Mustangs defeated North Atlanta 4-0. Hickey went and allowed just two hits while striking out 10. Mount Vernon improved to 20-4 on the season with the 5-0 week.

Kandace Burnett, Southmoore High School, Moore, Okla. (October 11, 2023)

How She Earned the Honor: After an outstanding week at the plate, Kandace Burnett has been selected as the Extra Inning Softball National High School Player of the Week. Burnett plays for Southmoore High School in Moore, Okla. Burnett helped lead the SaberCats to a Region 2 championship by posting a 3-0 record. Batting second in the lineup, Burnett finished the week 6-for-11 (.545) at the plate and scored six runs. She also added two RBIs and two stolen bases in the three games. For the season, Burnett leads Southmoore with a .421 batting average and has drive in 21 runs during the fall. Additionally, she has struck out only one time all season.

Payten Schibbelhute, Piedmont High School, Piedmont, Okla. (October 18, 2023)

How She Earned the Honor: After an outstanding week in the circle and at the plate, Payten Schibbelhute has been selected as the Extra Inning Softball National High School Player of the Week. Schibbelhute plays for Piedmont High School in Piedmont, Okla. Schibbelhute helped lead Piedmont to the 5A state tile in Oklahoma, which marked the third consecutive state title for the Wildcats. Schibbelhute pitched all three games in the state tournament for Piedmont and posted a 0.33 earned run average. She opened the state tournament by leading Piedmont to a 3-0 victory over Durant. She went seven innings and allowed just three hits while striking out two batters. In the state semifinal, Schibbelhute recorded another complete-game shutout as she allowed only three hits and struck out five as the Wildcats downed Elgin 4-0. Piedmont staged a dramatic rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim a 3-2 win over Guthrie in the state championship game. Schibbelhute went the distance in the circle and Peyton Gray hit a walk-off two-run single giving the Wildcats the victory. Piedmont ended the season with a 39-3 overall record and became the first large school (5A-6A) in the state of Oklahoma to win three consecutive state championships in 20 years and became the first 5A school to ever three-peat. Schibbelhute was brilliant in the state tournament during her Piedmont career as she was 9-0 with a 0.70 ERA and five shutouts in nine games.

Sadie Ross, Eaton High School, Eaton, Colo. (October 25, 2023)

How She Earned the Honor: After an outstanding week in the circle and at the plate, Sadie Ross has been selected as the Extra Inning Softball National High School Player of the Week. Ross plays for Eaton High School in Eaton, Colo. Ross helped lead Eaton to the 3A state tile in Colorado, which marked the second consecutive state title for the Reds. Ross capped the season in dominant fashion as she threw a no-hitter leading Eaton to an 11-0 victory over Thomas Jefferson. She struck out seven batters in her complete-game performance. She was named Sportswomen of Colorado Player of the Game following the title victory. Ross, who has committed to Baylor, was equally as impressive at the plate as she belted a grand slam home run in Eaton’s 11-1 victory over the The Academy in the state semifinals.

Jenna Edwards, Carrollton High School, Carrollton, Mo. (November 1, 2023)

How She Earned the Honor: After an outstanding week in the circle and at the plate, Jenna Edwards has been selected as the Extra Inning Softball National High School Player of the Week. Edwards plays for Carrollton High School in Carrollton, Mo. Edwards helped lead Carrollton to the Class 2 Missouri Softball State Championship with a gutty performance in the circle. With the title, the Carrollton softball team became the first team in school history to win a state championship. Carrollton earned their first-ever trip to the state Final Four in Springfield, Mo., with a dramatic 6-5 victory over Mid-Buchanan. The Trojans got a three-run home run from Beverly Molloy in the top of the seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead and Edwards closed things out in the circle to secure the victory. The Trojans rode the pitching of Edwards to a 3-1 victory in the semifinals over South Harrison. Edwards went the distance and did not permit an earned run. She also had an RBI single at the plate. Carrollton captured the state title with a 4-3 victory over Chaffee. Pitching her second game of the day, Edwards produced another complete game effort and stranded the tying run at third base in the seventh inning.
