Morgan Lloyd, a 2024 outfielder and first-baseman for the Hotshots National—Nelson, announced her commitment to Wichita State University on August 26th while on a visit to the campus.
“Everyone always told me, ‘You’ll get a feeling when you’ve found the right place,’ and that feeling is what Wichita State gave me,” shared Morgan. “Just all around—the school was what I was looking for. A big thing for me was feeling like a family, and seeing the bond between the girls and coaches was amazing and I helped me realize I wanted to be a part of that community.”
Morgan has been on the field since she was five years old, and her love for the game has only grown since she first laced up her cleats. From a young age, she knew she wanted to play at the collegiate level, and knew that in order for this dream to come true, a lot of hard work and discipline would be necessary
“At the beginning of this past summer, Coach Steve was looking for another outfielder to fill his roster and i jumped on the opportunity,” recalled Morgan. “This was one of the best decisions I’ve made—not only was I now on one of the top 18U teams, but I created a bond with everyone who became family to me. Coach Steve is amazing, he pushed all summer for me to get seen by many college coaches and now I’m committed!”

The opening on the Hotshots was a result of injuries, so Coach Steve Jones made the best of a bad situation by taking a chance on Morgan. Called “Mo” by her teammates, she was a top defensive player in the outfield this past summer and stands out from her peers with her quick first step, elite ability to read the ball off the bat, and a knack for taking the right angles. An added bonus is her arm, which can throw powerfully and accurate from any spot on the green. At bat, Morgan hit .375 for the Hotshots, consistently making things happen for her team.
“After a workout with us, her raw talent and desire were very evident and we added her to the team. She fit in perfectly and had an immediate impact, earning a starting role defensively and a key spot in our lineup,” said her club coach. “Morgan had a strong desire to play Division I softball, and I knew she had the talent to do so and told her as much. After contacting several college coaches to come out and take a look at her during the summer, it did not take long to garner pretty strong interest.”
Wichita State, a strong program competing in the ACC, identified her talent pretty quickly. Morgan didn’t get to complete or schedule all of her visits, as she fell in love with Wichita State during her second visit to the Kansas campus, noting an admiration for the coaching staff and the overall atmosphere of the school.
