Inside Pitch: 2023 Rhode Island Thunder Standout Hannah Greer… “Turning Sweet 16 and With My Second Family Again!”

Hannah Greer turned 16 in February and one of the highlights of her big week was reuniting with her Rhode Island Thunder teammates. Hannah’s the one in the blue uniform with a mask!

Hannah Greer is one of the fast-rising 2023 prospects in the Northeast and we’re happy to have here as one of Extra Inning Softball’s bloggers for this year.

The Rhode Island Thunder 16U National team star comes from a long line of softball standouts. Read more about the New Yorker’s family history and ties to Rhode Island HERE.

In January she shared winter training tips… … here is her latest entry, recapping a milestone in her life, Hannah getting her driver’s license!

SWEET 16

On February 16th, I turned the long-awaited 16!

Not only did Hannah pass, she got a perfect score on her driving test.

I was looking forward to turning 16 for a while because of the ability to get my permit, which I got on my birthday. I also got my favorite lunch, a Chipotle burrito, and then went to the DMV for my permit test, which I was super nervous for, but I ended up getting a perfect score!

Then I spent the rest of the night with my family at home. Some of my favorite gifts that I got was a DJ Lemahieu Yankee jersey (Yes, I am a diehard Yankees fan … I live in New York, so what do you expect?).

Another gift that my best friend got me was a blanket with one of my favorite actor’s face fully enlarged on.

However, the weekend before my birthday my team started up preseason practices again. Our last tournament was in late November and our team is made up of girls from all over the Northeast, so a lot of us haven’t seen each other since our last game and we thoroughly missed each other to say the least.

NY Yankee DJ Lemahieu

Our team, the (Rhode Island Thunder) 18U Lotti team and the 14U National team have been practicing together every weekend since then and it just feels great to be around the team again.

I bet a lot of players can relate that once a strong bond is formed between all the teammates it feels like a second family and going that long without seeing my second family was terrible.

Throughout the week, I’ve been keeping busy doing schoolwork, working out, watching Yankee spring training games, reading and watching college softball.

There have been so many games broadcasted at all times of the day and all of the games have just been so entertaining!

Home runs, pitching performances, base running and fielding highlights are awesome to see, but it’s also cool to see how much you can grasp about a team’s chemistry and how the coaches run their programs just from watching games.
