Mia Galella, a 1B/OF/power hitter who is #25 in the 2025 Extra Elite 100 and a member of the Virginia Glory organization, frequently blogs about her softball adventures for Extra Inning Softball and, in this week’s edition, recaps her team’s strong performance at the Team NJ Showcase held Oct. 15-17 in Edison and South Plainfield, New Jersey.
In her Extra Elite 100 bio, we wrote that:
“Mia is one of the hardest working players in her class and also one of the strongest. She has an exit velocity measured at 77 mph and has on video hit 12 balls in a row over a 200-foot fence during practice.”
“Mia isn’t just a big bopper, she has been timed in home-to-first with a 3.04 second mark and is looking to go sub-3.0.”
From Moscow, Pennsylvania, she’s 5-foot-9 and hit .760 at TCS Nationals last August in Myrtle Beach.”
We first profiled her in an Extra Star Power article published in March 2020 titled: 2025 Power Hitter Mia Galella Has “Freakish Power” & Runs Well Too!
Her previous blogs before this one recapped her Camping (& Homering!) at the University of Virginia Camp and also how much the Virginia Glory Strike Out Cancer Invitational & Camp impressed her.
Here’s Mia’s latest writeup as she praises her team and teammates who did so well two weeks ago..
*****
In mid-October, my VA Glory 16U National team played in the Team NJ College Showcase in Edison, New Jersey.
We started showcase play on Friday and ended on Sunday with my team going 4-1-1 for the weekend after playing some very good teams (and the Team NJ College Showcase events always brings some of the best teams out with a high level of competition!).
My team is known as “Team 11”… we’re officially the VA Glory National Mertz-Bronowicz 16U team and are stacked with amazing players; as Coach (Mike) Mertz says, we’re a team with high level recruits from top to bottom.
At the Team NJ Showcase, it was great to see teammates like Gianna “Gi Gi” Muhaw and Emily Lampela come up big.
Gigi is a 2023 grad and is being heavily recruited by D1 schools. She’s an outfielder and is just amazing! In our six games at Team NJ, she hit .700 with a .769 on-base percentage, a slugging percentage of .800 and put up a 1.569 OPS.
That was against top pitchers and what’s impressive is how unbelievably fast Gi Gi is!
Another 2023 outfielder for us is Emily Lampela who hit the walkoff double scoring me and Gi Gi. It was so awesome since she did it right in front of the coaches recruiting her.
Here’s a clip of her winning hit:
I’m the youngest player on this team and I look up to all my teammates as they have made me feel at home—especially with me living 4.5 hours away!
Saturday and Sunday—October 16 & 17—was when so many college coaches came out to recruit and evaluate players and there was so much talent for them to see!
I saw coaches from conferences like the ACC, Big 10 and Big East with many Division II and III schools in attendance as well.
It’s always exciting playing in front of college coaches and my team is stacked with unbelievable talent and high academics, which explains why there were so many college coaches that came to see our games.
Coming up in November, we get to go to Scenic City, Tennessee and then to Clearwater, Florida to play in the Clearwater Fall Classic.
Stay tuned for what’s to come next!
