James Landreneau Announces 2024 McNeese Schedule

LAKE CHARLES, La. – McNeese head softball coach James Landreneau has released the 2024 schedule that is highlighted by two home games against Oklahoma, the reigning three-time national champions.

“First of all, we are excited and grateful for the opportunity to play over 30 home games,” said Landreneau. “Playing in front of our fan base is always a treat. Our schedule should prove to be exciting for our fan base and challenge our team with some of the best teams in the country.  Being able to host Oklahoma and Cal for the first time in program history should bring some excitement to Joe Miller Field. Once again, we are grateful to the teams for allowing us to bring great softball to the lake area.”

The Cowgirls will compete against eight schools that advanced to the 2023 NCAA Tournament, four that reached the Super Regionals, and two that advanced to the Women’s College World Series.

The schedule includes 33 home games including the first 14 that will be played at Joe Miller Field at Cowgirl Diamond. McNeese will open its season against Cal on Feb. 8 before hosting back-to-back tournaments (Cowgirl Classic, Cowgirl Challenge) with a single game against Baylor in between the two tournaments.

The Cowgirl Classic (Feb. 9-11) field includes New Mexico, Tarleton State, and Tennessee State. The Cowgirl Challenge (Feb. 16-18) field includes Oklahoma, Central Arkansas, and Lamar.

The 14-game homestand will conclude with a single game against Boise State and a doubleheader against North Dakota.

McNeese will take part in the LSU Purple and Gold Challenge (March 1-3) where they will take on San Diego State, Illinois, LSU, and La. Tech.

Other non-conference games include La. Tech, Houston, UL-Monroe, Sam Houston, and UL-Lafayette. Non-conference road games include Houston, UL-Lafayette, South Alabama, Florida State, and La. Tech.

McNeese will open Southland Conference action on the at Nicholls on March 15. The Cowgirls will also travel to Northwestern State, Texas A&M-Commerce, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for conference road series.

The SLC home opening series is slated for March 22-23 against Incarnate Word. The Cowgirls will also host Lamar, Houston Christian, and Southeastern in conference series.

The Southland Conference Tournament is scheduled for May 7-10 in Hammond and hosted by Southeastern.
