CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Heading into her first season as the Tar Heels’ leader, head softball coach Megan Smith Lyon announced North Carolina’s full 2024 schedule.
UNC is scheduled to play 32 games at Anderson Softball Stadium, highlighted by four ACC home series and two tournaments.
The full-season slate features 12 teams who played in the 2023 NCAA Tournament (Texas, UCF, Washington, UCLA, UNCG, Campbell, Clemson, Notre Dame, Duke, Liberty, Louisville, Florida State), five teams who made it to a 2023 Super Regional (Clemson, Duke, Texas, Florida State, Washington) and two teams who made it to the Women’s College World Series (Florida State, Washington).
The Tar Heels open the 2024 season on the road at a tournament hosted by Winthrop on Feb. 10-12. Carolina will play four games against Winthrop and NC A&T while in Rock Hill, S.C.
The next weekend, Carolina travels to the Sunshine State to participate in the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational on Feb. 15-18. While in Clearwater, Fla., the Tar Heels will play five games against Kentucky, UCF, Texas, Washington and UCLA.
Then Carolina returns home to host the Carolina Classic from Feb. 23-25. The Tar Heels will play five games, welcoming Lipscomb, George Washington and Mount St. Mary’s to Chapel Hill.
The following weekend, Carolina hosts the March Madness Tournament, playing five games from March 1-3 against Rutgers, Rider, Campbell and Lafayette.
UNC opens ACC play on March 5-7 at home vs. Virginia. The other three conference home series that will be played at Anderson Stadium include: vs. Georgia Tech (March 22-24), vs. Notre Dame (March 28-30) and vs. Louisville (April 19-21).
The Tar Heels’ conference road schedule includes series at Clemson (March 16-18), Duke (April 5-7), Pitt (April 12-14) and Florida State (April 26-28).
Carolina’s nonconference midweek slate includes matchups vs. UNCG (Feb. 21), NC Central (Feb. 27), Oakland (Feb. 28), Furman (March 5), Elon (March 12), NC A&T (March 20), UNCW (April 3), Longwood (April 10), Liberty (April 17), ECU (April 23) and Winthrop (May 1).
The 2024 ACC Championship will be hosted by Duke in Durham from May 8-11.
