Oklahoma City, Okla. — In an effort to elevate professional softball and position the organization for the future of the sport, the Oklahoma City Spark will move on from the WPF and operate as an independent team for the 2024 season.
āI am thrilled to have the opportunity to move this team and the sport forward in 2024 and beyond,ā said team owner, Dr. Tina Floyd. āProfessional softball has been underserved and underrepresented for years, and now we have the opportunity to do great things for dedicated, talented women who work diligently for the sport they love. To have the possibility to play international teams in preparation for the 2028 Olympics is a true dream for this sport, city, and team. I could not be more excited for the future for softball and the OKC Spark.ā
The Spark was one of four teams that competed in the first full championship season of the WPF along with the Smash It Sports Vipers, USSSA Pride and the Texas Smoke.
The Spark advanced to the championship series before losing to the Texas Smoke.
Oklahoma City, which featured former University of Oklahoma standouts Jocelyn Alo, Keilani Ricketts, Haley Lee, Lynnsie Elam and Alex Storako, finished second in the regular season standings with a 21-14 record.
Women’s Professional Fastpitch declares itself as the official softball league in the United States and was founded by USA Softball, USSSA and Smash It Sports.
Schedule and ticket information for the 2024 OKC Spark season will be announced at a later date.
