Reviewing High School State Championships: Colorado

The state of Colorado concluded its fall high school softball season on Oct. 21 with champions being crowned in 5A, 4A and 3A classifications.

Colorado sponsors softball in three classifications and the state championships were played at the Aurora Sports Park in Aurora, Colo.

Class 3A – Eaton vs. Thomas Jefferson

Eaton and Thomas Jefferson clashed on the diamond to determine the Colorado state champion in Class 3A.

Eaton claimed its second consecutive state title with an 11-0 victory over No. 6 seed Thomas Jefferson behind the pitching of Sadie Ross.

Ross tossed a no-hitter as she struck out seven in the five-inning game.

Destrie Greiman paced the Reds offense as she homered and drove in four runs, while Zoe Hamilton and Stephanie Bingley each drove in two runs.

The Reds hit a combined 10 home runs in four games at the state tournament.

Class 4A – Lutheran vs. Riverdale Ridge

The matchup to decide the state championship in 4A was contested between fourth-seeded Lutheran and second-seeded Riverdale Ridge.

Lutheran rode the pitching of Utah bound senior Hailey Maestretti to its third consecutive state championship with a 6-1 victory.

Maestretti returned from a broken arm in the preseason to carry the Lions to the title. She struck out 11 batters in a complete-game performance.

Kiley Glenn paced the Lutheran offense by going 3-for-4 and driving in three runs, while Tennessee commit Meredith Barnhart and Addi Cramer each belted home runs.

Tegan Medina went 2-for-3 for Riverdale Ridge and drove in the Ravens run.
