The Myakka City River Mocs are the second member of the Florida Gulf Coast League (FGCL) to finalize and release its summer roster. Last week, the Bradenton Slice unveiled its roster of players which includes athletes from programs such as Florida, Georgia Tech, James Madison, Missouri and Virginia Tech among others.

Games in the GFCL are scheduled to begin on June 8 (pending COVID-19-impacted changes) and play will continue through July 14. Teams will play every day except Wednesday and Sunday. Twenty-five games are on the schedule with the all-star event on July 11.

Coach Michaela Transue

The River Mocs will be led by University of Missouri volunteer assistant coach, and Hofstra softball alumnus, Michaela Transue. Coach Transue provided the following observations regarding her roster:

“Heading into the FGCL summer season I am very excited about this roster. There’s a great mix of athletes from all over the country who can come together and continue to compete.”

“With four high-level arms in Madi Davis (UCF), Karley Hobbs (TMU), Mack Leonard (Illinois State) and Sarah Handrahan (Nebraska-Kearney) we will have a great mix in the circle.”

Emilee Erickson (BYU) will lead us in the experience category being our soul senior on the team, while looking to make an impact at third base. Joining her from BYU, freshman Kaylee Erickson will look to have an impact behind the plate.”

“Big hitters Jenny Jansen (Southern Illinois) and Alyssah Mullins (Georgia Southern) have had great success at the plate over their careers and we are looking for them to continue to drive in runs for the MOCS!”

Claire Ginder played with Team USA’s U-17 team last year.

“Both Claire Ginder (Furman) and Megan Wright (UCF) are incoming freshman for their respective universities. Ginder has played for the USA U-17 Women’s National Team, and will be a huge asset for the infield, while Wright will be an asset to the outfield.”

Ari Quinones (Washington), can swing and slap from the left side, and will play many roles as a utility player, along with lefty, Gabby Benson (Georgia St.). Junior outfielder Maggie Trgo (Western Kentucky) and infielders, sophomore Megan Hargraves (USF) and junior Lizzie Shubert (Stetson), look to round out our roster.”

“I am looking forward to getting to know these athletes and hopefully help them to further their game knowledge and skill set through this great opportunity,” added Coach Transue. “It’s a great chance for student athletes to play with different talent and make lifelong connections through softball”

“In light of everything that has happened to the 2020 season, it’s amazing that these athletes have the opportunity to play in the first collegiate league. This will help our great sport to grow, as well as pass along knowledge to future generations. Go Mocs!”
