NEWS & NOTES

Norco head coach Rick Robinson is back in the club world.

***Rick Robinson, the head coach at powerhouse Norco High, CA, took over as the head coach for Firecrackers Holcomb/Robinson 16U in the fall and continued his winning ways in travel ball. Robinson’s Firecrackers recently qualified for a Tier 1 berth to the Alliance Fastpitch Championship Series this summer.

“At first I didn’t know if I wanted to get back into travel ball, but when I came out to the first practice, I knew this was a special group,” Robinson said. “It is a very talented and hard-working group of girls.”

***Nebraska Gold National 16U-Groff, which has an invite to PGF 16U Premier Nationals this summer, looks like a solid candidate for the Extra Elite Eighty 16U Club Rankings.

“The average length of stay for a player being on our team is approximately six years,” Nebraska Gold coach Melissa Groff said. “We’ve had most of these young ladies since a very early age and we’re very proud of the culture that players and parents have helped create over the last nine years.”

The 14U Division is loaded with teams such as Hotshots Premier-Esparza, Texas Bombers Gold-Crabtree, Impact Gold National-Smith, Texas Riptide 07, Texas Bombers Gold-Malpass, Blaze National-Prinzo and Texas Bombers Gold-Cruz.

***Another tournament to keep an eye on this weekend is the USSSA Gold Cup Series 1 in McDonough, GA, which features a number of top 16U and 18U teams from the Southeast.

***Former Florida All-American Nicole DeWitt chats with So Cal Choppers 08-Franco 2026 P/SS Juju Franco, the Alliance Fastpitch National Player of the Month for February.

WALK-OFF LOVE

We here at TLI love walk-offs and there’s nothing better than a walk-off grand slam like this one by Arkansas’ Danielle Gibson, a former standout at Murrieta Valley High, CA, in a 6-4 win over Drake for the Razorbacks’ 12th win in a row on Thursday night.
